Homecoming order?

So Stacey was called the Homecoming Queen in several episodes including the senior picture one with the Mummy but in "Pleased to Eat You" Tommy runs for Homecoming King apparently 2 months after Stacy has already left for college. Any clue on why they screwed up timing? I'm only assuming that they needed plenty of time to keep the show going since they could only really show it as a High School show.
Any other suggestions?
