Turn A Gundam

First I’d like to say that this is my first Gundam, by no means is it my first anime, and I am not comparing Turn A Gundam against any other Gundam or am I implying that it is better than all the rest, but I just want to discuss what Turn A meant, to each of you who have seen all 50episodes or at least both movies, what was the message, the implecation that was left over, When I speak about Turn A Gundam I want to state that yes I’m quite aware of the fact that it is a television show, that it in fact is no substitute for the real world, that all it is a story told by a man to entertain and enlighten others. At least that would be my hopeful view of it. That being said I cannot get over how powerfully the ending affected me. Turn A as I understand it is not an anime full of exceptional battles or over the top animation. Turn A like its protagonist Rolan Cehak is a very humble anime, the story flows at a very moderate pace not so fast that you can’t keep up or so slow that you want to kick and prod it to get moving, it takes appropriate breaks in between development and battle to give viewers a little relax time or rather to give it’s characters time to unwind. That being said I can honestly say with great truthfulness that Turn A Gundam’s ending is the most powerful and emotionally affecting end to an Anime that I have witnessed. I would say rather than looking at Turn A’s plot as a story itself, look at it as one giant narration leading up to this magnificent ending. As I understand it the general expectation from Anime of the genre people attach Turn A too is an epic fight with amazing feats of strength, endurance, courage and determination wrapped in a flashy action package that can hold viewers on the end of their seats. Turn A I feel may lack in this area when it comes down to the title fight between Rolan and Gym so for anyone who came looking for that in this Gundam I must apologize to you but it is not here, (if that is where you derive your enjoyment I would suggest something like Karas). While all these things are delivered their effect is toned down, as you watch the episode Golden Autumn all this occurs in the first half and in my opinion has little importance to the story. Instead it’s the final epilogue in the last half of the story that peaks my interest. It is a happy ending for all even Sochie in my opinion. It is an ending filled with life, and hope. Now again I have seen many endings and I take these from Anime and non Anime, I have seen the classic walk off into the sunset or the clawing struggle to reach light from a freshly formed rain of debris, or the lovers clasping each other in the glow of the sky. I have seen tears of happiness, sadness and regret I have seen the hero die and victor achieve a hollow victory. I have seen many happy endings and many sad endings, but never an Ending like Turn A Gundam’s that just seemed to be one thing: Full of Hope. It was happiness and sadness but ultimately Hope. Characters didn’t seem to have a set destiny assigned to them, or a classic role that they would fill out. Instead it seemed that from this 50episode story each character took hold of their lives and lived them. It was done perfectly and so real that amidst everything that I have ever watched it is the most succinct and perfect embodiment of a series characters. For me it’s not difficult to pull apart a series plot or guess the fate of a character after a couple of episodes, yet Turn A’s ending caught me completely by surprise, or possibly I let my guard down whatever the case that’s why I feel so affected by it. Combined with the exceptional music which I just have to say was so perfectly appropriate to the context of the epilogue. Turn A invoked a feeling in me that I feel I hadn’t recognized in a long time. A feeling that happiness is out there, that hope still is alive, that it’s not silly to believe in things or people and that humanity really isn’t capable of great things that will change the face of the universe but small wonderful gestures that change the shape of our lives. Maybe it’s sad on my part but I feel that it is a fine and wonderful thing that has changed my perspective on many things.

So for anyone reading this I Just have to say

TURN A IS A VERY WONDERFUL ANIME HURRY UP AND SEE IT, EVEN IF YOU DON’T ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DID, IT TRULY IS WONDERFUL
