Did they maim Rattrap or what?

They completely destroyed his character.

Rattrap was always my favorite character, and I was pissed to see him "crippled" in Beast Machines.

reply

Ditto! And I mean, he was the second-in-command of the Maximals in Beast Wars; and suddenly Beast Machines hits and the STUPIDEST character on the show (Yes, the same show that featured Quickstrike and Waspinator) is now second-in-command?

There were SOME improvements. Rattrap with a love-interest (Botanica) was awesome, and they did put more focus on his intellect, which always was second only to Rhinox's of the Maximals, but without Rhinox... who else would be the smart one? I guess Blackarachnia COULD have been but I think Rattrap's smarter than she is and... She was too busy being "The Girl." Meh, Beast Machines was not near as good as its predecessor.

Yea Rattrap was really screwed over. What I hate most about the show are the writers. The writers SUCKED!

reply

HOW dare YOU! Yes they did make Black Arachnia the girl, but she was smarter than Rattrap. Rattrap could hold his own with technology, but second next to Rhinox in intellect is pushing it.

Black Arachnia was the one who came up with and built the sonic emitter, temperal field disrupter, and submarine in Beast Wars. She was the one who was onto how Megatron thinks without second guessing. She was the one who got all the Maximals back online after Megatron took over the base in the third season, stopped Terantulas's count down sequnece, and took out Rampage without a fight. Rattrap was very capable until Beast Machines, however, his character was all wrong. He was a whiner instead of a pestimist. he was in the way instead of making ways. He was never getting on anyone's nerves and saying what no wants to hear like, "we're all going to die" or making fun of people. I missed the old him.

"Give it up, Sentinel. You don't have a chance. I'm a stealth fighter, a master marksman, and... a demolision expert!"- Rattrap

I think JohnnyGlo was refering to the BM version of Black Arachnia. For the most part of Beast Machines she was just basically the girl. She didn't exactly show her intelligence in BM like she did in BW. Then again, they dumbed everyone down in BM except for like Cheetor. He couldn't get anymore dumb than BW so he got smarter.

reply

Rattrap's robot mode was stupid. But then again, I was never a fan of any of their character's robot modes in BM. It was cool in BEAST WARS (BEASTIES) because they actually looked like animals.

PS: The Maximal's returned to Cybertron, why did the Orcle upgrade them to animals? Shouldn't they have been weird alien vehicles like some of them on the original Transformers?

Actually the Oracle upgraded the Maximals to a mix of robot and animals. I think the word was "tech-organic" or "technorganic." They were upgraded to combat against Megatron's virus. Or the Oracle wanted the planet to evolve into the technorganic form.

"Yes they did make Black Arachnia the girl,"

lol I just like how he worded that.

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.

I have to disagree about rattrap not being a pessimist before BM. Saying "we're all gonna die" every time something goes badly, doesnt leave much room for optimism. lol

Also i think his intelligence was a different kind than rhinox and black arachnia in BW. They both had him in technical knowledge/know-how (though he was still very capable) he was definitely superior in strategic thinking.

Rattrap's obsession with self-preservation leads expertly honed quick-thinking and strategic application skills. That combined with his loyalty and morals lead him to be quite dependable.

In BM he didnt have the bonus infiltration skills and cunning. His robot form was laughably lame too. He looked like one of those little boys from the 1920s, plus the fact he was pretty low on firepower.

The butchered rattrap, and he was by far my favourite character in BW.

Let's see: he's the coward techie, has no weapons, uses holograms...

Oh my Primus! They turned Rattrap into Scooter!

They wanted to show what happens when you take a "cool" character, then strip away everything that made him cool and see how he'd cope.

AGREED, if he was at least a weapons expert and had weapons while being the hacker he was in BM I could have liked him but he had no weapons and just got in the way and whined that he had no weapons XD

They stripped him of he ability to be a warrior(which I guess his wheels are symbolic for having been crippled after the war and learning a new way to fight, basically they stole Batgirl's journey to becoming oracle after the joker shot her) If they delved into him being crippled and becoming a real tech wiz and fighting with creative weapons instead of whining and regained his rattrap personality he would have been awesome. Th writers used too much symbolism not enough development

I did like him and botanica together but would have been better if he was a warrior like in BW and she taught him how to be more peaceful

Verily. Out of all the characters in the series. Rattrap got the worst of it. Followed closely by Silverbolt.

Whinny Samurai... Perhaps he got it worse that Rattrap. Though the rodent suffered through more episodes. ugh.
