I got it. It was the first time I'd ever watched Beast Machines. I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but not terrible.

Beast Machines wasn't as bad as Beast Wars fans said it was. They were riding the high of such a good series that nothing could top it. Marv Wolfman crafted a fairly well written direction for the series. It should be given credit for being as good as it was after such a tough act to follow.

I'm a huge Beast Wars fan and enjoyed Beast Machines. I was amazed at how tight the story telling was and how serialized the two season were.

That was probably Beast Machine's biggest strength. That the story was overall arching across the episodes. Another positive was its calls back to the original Transformers cartoon. I remember when Fox Kids was advertising one episode and they talked about the "key to victory." I wondered if they were talking about the key to Vector Sigma, and it was!

Ha ha. Yeah. I did a double take like, "What the?!"

I also liked some of the toys. Thrust and Jetstorm in particular I feel were pretty well done.

What it all comes down to is, do I think Beast Machines is better than Beast Wars? No. Do I think Beast Machines is crap? Absolutely not. In fact, I think it's a worthy follow up. A show that braved having a story arc and told it on its terms.

That's one thing it definitely has over BW. How good the overall story is may be up for debate, but the show knew what it wanted to do from the start. Nice sense of direction, too. The tone was fairly consistent throughout, whereas BW was sorta all over the place -- especially in its third season, which showed little sense of restraint when it came to cartoony, mood-ruining gags.
