Chow's best film so far.

Even better than Kong Fu Hustle.

It was a very good movie ;)

Chow hiself said he made KFH bc it's been his dream as a child
to become a Kung Fu master, just as Bruce Lee,
so he made KFH in order to fulfill this dream in a movie, and he said
"if I don't do it now
I might never get a chance to do it."

King of Comedy is, on the other hand, a loyal reflection
of what he's been through in real life as an actor
who'd waited a long time(6 years) before his era came

exactly.

I hate post where not appropriate but i dont know where else so sry.

Anyone know where i can find some english subtitles for this movie?

reply

Chows acting in this is the best i've ever seen him,I felt so sad for his character at some points.

reply

NO WAY this is his best movie.. I've seen a good 10-15 of his films and most are much better than this one... if anything it's one of his worst! What about Flirting Scholar or the Chinese Odyssey.. both of those ten times better than this one... I just got done watching God of Cookery and it blew King of Comedy out of the water! The ONLY funny parts of this movie is when he flicked the kid's penis or when the snot was pouring out of his nose... other than that it was pretty boring.. Jackie Chan is cool tho..

This movie is not only comedy but also a beautiful love story that can touch ur heart. But I don't like the ending of it.

Of course, the others u mentioned r great ones too.

This is one of my favourites but the ending was rather random. lol. Then again, aren't all Stephen Chow films?

reply

God of Cookery!

King Of Comedy is really his best movie. It´s touching, funny, sad, everything. I like best out of all Stephen´s ventures so far.

reply

That whole scene leading up to the Jackie Chan cameo was hilarious. I agree though, the God of Cookery was damn funny but got lost watching the Chinese Odessey, bad subtitles?

reply

Imo, on a comedic level, God of Cookery is much funnier than this. I didn't particularly find Cecilia Cheung's character that appeasing in the movie (maybe she's not really made for comedy).

It's been quite a long time since I saw Chinese Odyssey or any of his period stuff like King of Beggars, Flirting Scholar (etc) ... but, when I did watch those at the time, never did notice much of a problem with the subtitles. Of those, those were all the Meiah and Universe Laser releases ... imo, all the HK subtitles should be of decent quality and not cause any confusion.

Cecilia Cheung playing the club-girl is the big surprise...she can actually act!!
I loved this movie. It's fresh and daring. I laughed many times through out the movie, a lot of laughs came from surprising twists that I didn't see them coming. Very much a prototype (can I say that?) to Shaolin Soccer. Imagination runs wild....that all I can say.

i wrote most of it myself. It's a lot better than official ones / or the ones out there. It's part of the reason why i rewrote most of it.

Although this is my 'first draft' so i never really had a chance to go through this yet.

If you like it, I have also put up subtitles for Shaolin Soccer. It's on the Shaolin Soccer forum on imdb.

Enjoy!

Better than KFH
but no way better than Shaolin Soccer. Which is an absolute definition and perfection of the Stephen Chow genre.

This movie is probably even more fun and random, but SS is also partially just awesome serious undertone to it all- Superb effects and cinematic choreography.

King of Comedy definetifely gets funnier each time. But SS is Chow's masterpiece.

reply

Not even close. Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle are both much better films. But it is entertaining.
