Terrible!

This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Embarassing and cringe-worthy.

reply

You obviously aint seen many films then.

reply

I've seen loads of films. There might be a few worse than Human Traffic, but not many.

Then you clearly haven't done drugs, then.

If you have to have used drugs to enjoy a movie, it can't be very good.

And I have done drugs, but obviously not the right ones, or not enough of them to enjoy this steaming turd of a film.

reply

I've never done drugs, but I love to Party! And of course I love this movie, because the whole movie is like a great Party.
Even it's not my Generation (I was born 1987) there's so much i recognise or experienced myself in this movie.

Like it said on my DVD-case: " If you don't want to dance, after watching this film you are probably dead." ;-)

reply

The film is actually a quite accurate representation of what ecstasy and drug use is like - both the good AND the bad parts. I find it very educational.
Even if you have never taken ecstacy and perhaps can't relate to it (the feelings), you can learn from it.

reply

Not a huge fan of the movie in all honesty, but you can't deny that people who have experienced that sub-culture and the drugs scene are more likely to identify with it than those who haven't. Thus, you probably have to have taken drugs to appreciate/enjoy it to it's furthest extents, no?

reply

I agree, this movie is an absolute horror-show. One of the worst ever. I saw it in the cinema when I was 19, and I'd done more than my fair share of partying and ecstacy and all the rest.

I think the two main problems are 1) the movie thinks it's really profound and clever, when it isn't. It's just humourless. And 2) the characters are all deeply, deeply unlikeable. I wouldn't want to be friends with any of them - they're smug, sanctimonious, and seem to believe that the world owes them something. If people want to go out and get off their faces that's their business, but PLEASE don't start whining about how hard done by you are. It's your life choice.

And don't forget - everyone over 40 is a pompous idiot. At least that's what this movie would have you believe.

reply

Not sure why you think the characters feel the world owes them something. Most of them are employed and a couple bitch about their employers, but who doesn't. They're young but not carefree. I think that makes them more realistic. Jip, for one, had a pretty poor role model in his dad, and his mom's "career choice" has effed him up. Can't blame him for wanting to get faced every so often.

^ This.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

I think what the poster was trying to say is that you more than likely wouldn't be able to RELATE if you haven't experienced similar scenarios.

A lot of times people "don't like/enjoy" what they don't understand. I think this is a case with this movie. Those that have been there appreciate it for it's realistic storytelling about a part of life most people don't experience.

And those that haven't been there either appreciate it for giving them a glimpse into a world they'll never be (or haven't yet been) apart of or they hate it because they see it as excessive and don't understand why anyone would enjoy this kind of lifestyle (and this again comes back to having never been exposed to either the environment yourself, or someone who is a part of that environment and enjoys it).

It's an anecdotal movie about a very specific area of drugs; if you haven't done drugs you won't enjoy this movie half as much as if you have.
I watched it a few years ago and turned it off, then gave it another chance after a few mad raves and some drug use with my group of friends, and it's scary just how realistic some of the scenes in this movie are!
The acting is so spot on that I don't doubt for a second most of the actors have done drugs at some point too.
Think of it like this: If you had never had a drink, how could you possibly understand a movie that's all about getting super drunk and running around doing stupid stuff? You might find it funny, but you can't relate to it so it's not as effective.
It's not that you have to be on drugs to enjoy this film, the film was specifically aimed at the crowd that has experienced drugs.
I watched "Spun" and thought it was terrible, but all the people who have tried crystal meth (which is one of the drugs I refuse to touch) said it was really good. Same thing

reply

IMO, if you have to use drugs to enjoy a movie, it isn't a good one.

Personally I would disagree. As much as the film contains flaws, whether it's in the acting or writing or whatever. It has some redeeming qualities such as it's humor, which I found incredibly funny. My main problem with the film, which really diminished it's possibility to be a great film, even including it's flaws, is the fact that it didn't seem to be aware of which side it was on. Whether it was attempting to state something on that generation, modern society, drug culture or whether it was glorifying that lifestyle. Which, to me, it did both. Which is kind of conflicting.

------------------
Now, a question of etiquette - as I pass, do I give you the ass or the crotch?

reply

i think thats the best part of the movie.. why should it tell you how to think.. Especially refreshing for a movie about drugs by not completely glamourising them but doesnt make them seem bad.

reply

It's a great movie

I used to be a raver and i reckon the characters were a nasty lot and the sort of group you stay away from by a country mile.
