most widely banned movie?

According to the dvd case, this is the most widely banned (or maybe it just says "most banned") movie of all time. Anyone actually know if this is true? I haven't seen it yet, but I know flicks like "Cannibal Holocaust" and "Salo" were banned in a lot of places, too, and I can't imagine anything being worse than "Cannibal Holocaust."

Cannibal is good movie
but this is crap :(

reply

This isn't worse than Cannibal Holocaust - not at all. Island of Death is just corny and pretty funny if you don't take it seriously. I recommend it.

To wit the answer to the question is it task or people? ...well, you know... people.

reply

Agreed. This movie is not disturbing or scary or even gory.
It all felt like a cross between Russ Meyer and Jess Franco to me.

Cheesy, funny at times but quite baaaad to be honest.

reply

I thought the movie was great. I would have prefered a bit more nudity.

reply

Over a year and a half later, I just finished watching this film for the first time. LAME. It just went on and on, with horrible music.

The Cannibal films are not only nastier, but of much better quality.

reply

cannibal holocaust is banned in about 60 countries. anything anyone says about any other movie besides cannibal holocaust being banned in more countries or being more disgusting and realistic is full of *beep* i dont mean to sound mean. im just saying. cannibal holocaust ownes all.

reply

Island of Death is overrated.
It isn't even shocking. Any 80's slasher is way better than this.

I must disagree, respectively. I have seen a number of films far more intense than Cannibal Holocaust. Don't get me wrong, I love the film; I even own Cannibal Holocaust on the Deluxe DVD Edition. But there are films that are worse.

I am about to download Island of Death. We shall see if it's worse or not. But, from going by some of the forum posts on here, it doesn't appear that way.

Some REALLY messed up films i have watched, but are not limited to, are:

Begotten
Ichi the Killer
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Tetsuo II: Body Hammer
Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom
Men Behind The Sun

reply

Ichi The Killer more messed up than CH? Ichi The Killer is a bit of a laugh, the violence is almost comic-like

From what I've read Salo is the most widely banned film to date.

reply

Cannibal Ferox is more widely banned than Cannibal Holocaust...Salo would be next, followed by faces of death. Island of death really isnt that widely banned...forgotten in time, yes, but not so widely banned..

reply

Island of Death isn't really bad by many standards, on a physical level there is very little gore but the Racist, Sexist, Homophobic and general exploitative connotations are far worse than they are in most other video nasties. It also contains huge amounts of nudity and several sex / rape scenes. I doubt this movie is the most widely banned of all time but like a lot of titles on the Vipco label they use the very fact that the movie is a video nasty as a huge selling point, it is probably just false advertising though.

Salo, Hard Gore, Forced Entry or Ken Park

Actually according to many film databases Cannibal Holocaust is the most widely banned film of all time. Cannibal Ferox? That's a joke. Salo has also been banned in many countries but I don't remember what place it comes in.

reply

I agree. I'm pretty sure Cannibal Holocaust holds that title but of course I'm not 100% certain.

I remember Cannibal Ferox held a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most widely banned film of all time. Cannibal Holocaust is definitely the better film of the two, but I do remember 'Ferox' holding the record . As for Island of Death, it's a fun film for horror fans.

reply

Cannibal Holocaust was the most widely banned, with 57 countries. The number of countries that banned Cannibal Ferox is not exactly known, however the number 31 is confirmed. Either way, C.H. def. holds the title.

reply

Salo is far worse than this and CH. I don't know anyone who would think raping and mutilating then killing kids for sexual gratification is tamer than a bit of animal gore.

reply

That ratio doesn't sound too far off, since "CH" is at least twice as brutal and disturbing as "CF," which is plenty gruesome but partially sabotages itself with over-the-top silliness. Plus there's nothing like the bludgeoning/rape/dismemberment of the film crew at the end of "CH" (among other scenes) that has quite the same impact, and yes, I include the penectomy in this assessment.

I haven't seen "Island of Death" yet (though it is available online) and actually haven't seen more than a few minutes of "Salo" for that matter. Almost as if, in my gradual quest to see the most disturbing/graphic films of all time, I've been saving that one up for myself.
