and I also know that this is probably not anywhere near as funny as 'Happiness of the Katakuris', but is this good?

I'm a big Miike fan and saw this much later than any of the other Kim Ji Woon films. The Miike version is best seen either after or before this but I would choose after. It is different and incredible warped versiono of the Quiet Family but far all the right reasons. Miike's creativity shines through over the original. The original is awesome and I recommend it but don't expect Miike's edge which he has over a lot of other directors.
I'm not putting down the director of this movie. I have all of his films acquiable to date. I am a huge fan. Miike has this unique gift most directors starve for. The element of intense unpredictableness at the moment you least expect. Miike is a genius and one of my favourites if not my favourite director. Kim Jii Woon is very high up along with Park Chan Wook and some others.
I rate both films as masterpieces which need to be seen to be beleived.

Both excellent films and both different enough to enjoy them in their their own right.
shareTwo thumbs up for The Quiet Family and just one for Happiness of the Katakuris.
HotK, even with its creative clay-animation and musical elements, didn't offer enough cohesiveness in story-telling I thought.
I really enjoyed the black comedy element in TQF more, and the overall acting was better in this film compared to HotK.
