Why all the detesting?!

A lot of people have been criticizing 'The Quiet Family' and I can't really see why. Now, I maybe slightly biased as Kim Ji-Woon is my second favourite director (Takeshi Kitano is my first), but stylistically and technologically speaking, this film is spot on - it definitely shows that Kim Ji-Woon has a unique style which he has also used in his other films.

I think all this detesting about this excellent little film just confirms that you can judge whether a film is good or not by the use of style, technology and narrative/generic conventions...saying whether a film is good or not isn't judged by personal preference - this is insane because everyone has different views.

It was a good movie, but I remember being slightly disappointed in that there was some plot holes. But Kang Ho Song makes up for everything. He's such a fantastic actor.

How troublesome...

I definitely thought it was enjoyable but like the guy above me I was a little disappointed that it had some subplots that shrivelled up without any resolve.

I thought the story and characters and humor was all great though so it was not enough to detract from the movie entirely. I'd give it a 7/10.

I think it becomes sort of convoluted in the latter stages after the rape/cliff fall, and that's the only thing about it that bothered me. Other than that I'd agree that it's brilliantly well made, but that's Kim for you, the man is a classy director. Just a shame his writing isn't always so strong.

its somewhat convoluted, yes... but the "detesting" part comes from the fact that the alienated viewers that knows only the same *beep* from hollywood can't watch a movie way too different from what they are used to... (that's why hollywood makes the same movie over and over with little to no changes)
