canned laughter
was it just me or did the canned laughter not even find this show funny ALL the time?

An audience that'll be told what to do.
I love this show, but laughter (canned or cued by a live studio audience) is a psychological tactic to make something seem funnier than it is.
For example, Friends without canned laughter would equal a pathetic example of an American sitcom, whilst in fact it's one of the most famous in the world.
However, like I said, I love this show, and I still think I would've liked it and found it funny even without the canned laughter.
