The horrible horrible horrible main character made this horrible

So we're supposed to feel bad and root for this girl whose life is being taken over by a French foreign student, only the character is so horrible, unbelievably shallow, manipulative and beyond redemption that I could only hope the "French" girl to land another blow on her. It could work if she had some shallowness and started to change her ways but having her *spoilers* win in the end while remaining pretty much the disgusting person she was to begin with just made the movie much, much worse in my eyes. No mateer what Piper Perabo's character did (though obviously it is reproachable) I hoped she gained the best out of the utter villain she was facing. I'm only typing this because I think the movie took a nosedive for the worst when it offered redemption and happiness to a character who deserved all the misery she got in the movie, and then some.

Geez, lighten up. This movie isn't suppose to be taken as serious as you are apparently taking it.

Jane McGregor's character is suppose to be shallow and self absorbed. Piper's character is really no better though. It is two "messed up" girls going at it and being sneaky and manipulative towards each other.

Awful movie. Awful characters. I know this movie is satire, but eventually a director has to get off that one note and provide some character devolpement or storyline which doesn't happen in this movie. It just comes off like a bad five minute skit that is extended to an hour an a half. I hated all the characters, actors, screenwriters, and director for this lamentable flop.

I was also very confused at the end of the film. Somehow we had to feel sorry for this snobby Texan girl instead of the cute French girl which turned out to be just as nasty. I was glad we discovered Genevieve's motive, but the way the lifestyle of Starla Grady was justified and practically unchanged at the end was awful.

Other than that, the movie was quite enjoyable and Piper Perabo was very hot.

i think we definately see how starla grew as a person. she establishes a relationship with her brother, she stops dressing so sluttly and she rejected the shallow football player to be with a guy who has substance.

so the experience with geneieve makes her a better person in the end.

The main character was so unlikeable and I couldn't sympathize with her. I actually felt sorry for Piper Perabo's character at the end.

I actually like how both girls are horrible. In the beginning I liked Genevieve b/c she was cute and funny. I knew she was up to something. And Starla just went nuts...letting loose a stream of funny lines. In the end, both girls reverse roles, but in a realistic way (as realistic as such a movie can get). Starla was never a saint, but she did grow up. Genevieve got caught, and just got crazier (becoming Starla to the French). I thought it was a smart play on the modern teen girl-- who can be bratty, mean, and selfish. Didn't you see "Mean Girls"? Didn't you see "Heathers"? Heck, have you seen "Beautiful"?. Hilarious. And as for Starla, while I wouldn't be her friend in real life, I can say that she is quite human. This movie shows someone who goes through the worst time in her life, b/c of Karma, and comes out better...but not a saint...not many here on Earth are saints.

Besides, the nice girl getting ripped by the nut has been done MANY times before. See "Single White Female".

There are a lot of dark comedies in which the fun does not come from identifying with the characters as admirable, and this is one of them. Good movie.
