Best game ever easily

I don't think a game exists that comes close to the storytelling, writing, NPCs and uniqueness of PS:T. And lets face it, in todays casual ADD generation nothing is ever likely to.

It's the best game ever made, but not only that.
It's one of the best stories ever told, if you ask me.
I've read many novels but none come close to the profoundity of PS:T.
If you ever study Mahayana Buddhist philosophy you can see its influence on the game. Many of the ideas are there: Samsara, Nirvana, the True Self (True Nature), mortality, overcoming birth-and-death, the Zen-like wisdom of the Zerthimon, etc.

Best story maybe, but for me the gameplay wasn't good enough, I actually found it a bit cumbersome and not very fun in many parts. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is what I consider to be the best video game ever made. And it'll probably remain that way, it's still the top rated game of all time with no equal, and that's not just by chance or coincidence.

Exactly. No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn't get into Planescape.

The combat system is terrible.
The inventory and weapon system is terrible.
There is little to no skill / talent advancement and customization.
The magic system is awful.

I got very tired of the endless dialogue at certain points.

To top it off, there are sequences in the game where combat is forced upon you immediately after having gone through 15 minutes of dialogue and selections... without a chance to save (the night hag fight). Mess up, or have the program freeze (as it does all too often), and you get to go through 15 minutes of dialogue again hoping you can find the right selections that lead to experience, and then praying you won't die or the program won't freeze again.

2 cons keep it well away from the best game title: bugs and the fact that too much of the weapons & bonuses barely have any use

Grim Fandango is the only game I *know* that matches PST in terms of writing.

Some of the modern casual games are excellent stories too. Amanita Design's stuff first to come to mind.

I played it when it first came out; I was so floored that I to this day hadn't stopped remembering it from time to time and wishing I had a way to play it again. Lo and behold, gog had a Windows 7 compatible version! Ah, bliss... :)

The trouble with Socialism is that someone else always gets to determine what's fair

reply

And the problem with no socialism is that no one determines what is fair.

reply

Fair is by definition determined. The idea/person/entity that assigns it can't be a part of that process. Since there's no program, and only people, I rest my case.
