Let's start a campaign for an official release of the series on DVD
I was just reading the story on how a season of GPK was produced for CBS, but it never aired in the US because of controversy. A few episodes were aired in other countries(I, myself, was living in southeast Asia in the late 1980s, and can remember watching one or two episodes of the show).
I was just wondering, does anyone know exactly how many episodes were produced? And also, do you know if the original episodes have been preserved intact by the show's producers? The episodes might have been destroyed by now, but they also might be sitting untouched on a shelf somewhere.
If the episodes have been destroyed, I guess we'll never get to see them, but if they still exist, there's a chance we can watch the show. The producers could finally release the series to the public. There's a bunch of channels that episodes of the show could air on(Cartoon Network, Boomerang, etc). Or the whole series could be released on DVD.
Any controversy that prevented the show airing in the 80s has surely disappeared by now. There's been a bunch of shows, like Pokemon, that are far more commercial. And the primary audience for the show at this point in time is mostly nostalgic twenty-somethings.
We should start a campaign to finally get GPK released to the public. We could sign petitions and write letters to the producers. Here's the official GPK web site: http://www.garbagepailkids.com.
We've got to really put in a good effort, though. DVD releases of tv shows cost a lot of money, so they won't do it if there isn't a significant amount of interest. We've got to show them that the interest exists.
