William Devane...

I love him in this movie. "I'm too old for this shi*" :) He's realistic and stands out in a minor role. He should have been a bigger movie star. :)

He was awesome in Knot's Landing! :)

the first and only other movie i've seen him in was "Testement". he was awesome as the father in that all too short role. i loved how he had the morning ritual of biking with his oldest son.

wish i could find that movie on Hulu or someplace like that...i would love to see the first part of the movie again. otherwise, that is all too terrifying realistic portrayal of what is most likely after a nuclear war.

He is a big star. Who does not recognize him? I am just not sure he made superstar money. That is the real shame here.

Don't forget he was also in 'Rolling Thunder' (1977) and a small role in 'Payback' (1999).

romero1: I agree w/ all your points.

I saw him years ago doing an awesome portrayal of JFK (in b/w)!

And his best movie ever. Bad News Bears in breaking training. Ok.......maybe not :)

reply

I like him, but he always basically plays the same role all the time. Not a whole lot of range going on there.

Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

The guy's pretty awesome, I loved him in Marathon Man! I thought that he was awesome in here, glad he played a good guy too.

Agreed. I love William and he was on the verge in the 70's of making it big but he made a big budget film in the early 80's that killed his career. He kinda reminded me of Christian Bale foe some reason. Think its the teeth and way of speaking their dialogue.

reply

He ruined himself in this film with the constant gum chewing. It is annoying, and disgusting.

I have admired him in some shows in the past, but this isn't one.

COSMO...
Yeah I gotta agree.
1/ The constant gum chewing. Arrghh
2/ The smart ass look of 'I hope they screw up.
3/ The over bite and yellow teeth.
4/ The beer gut.
5/ The look of 'My god, they damned well pulled it off.

I've seen him various bit parts from time to time, he's one of those guys I love to hate!

-B!LL!

The exaggerated gum chewing was annoying and bizarre.

I love him in the Jesse Stone movies.

Starring in a movie like "The Dark" would kill anyone's career.

reply

He recovered from that.
