The Man Who Lost The Sea is a great SF story by Theodore Sturgeon. It is, In fact, my all-time favorite SF story; and I've read thousands. And ever since I read it the first time, I've wanted to have a picture/painting of the main scene in the story.

And now I do!!!!! The final scene in this movie is virtually identical to the scene in The Man Who Lost The Sea.

Read it. It's very short -- about 20 minutes worth or so. Absolutely wonderful.

Perhaps a closer match thematically would be Heinlein's 1940 short story, Requiem. Citing R.L. Stevenson:

"Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill."
