Alright, just because I felt like starting a topic here. Who here (or where ever) remembers using the "Just In Bailey" code? I actually used it before I had finished the game and that was when I first found out that Samus was a woman. I don't know, just randomness.
I vaugly remember watching my brother defeat the game. But thought i'd be your first response to one of your first posts. Remember if people critize you, just suck it up and if it's a battle worth fighting than go for it. As for me i'm going to get my ass yelled at, at The Phantom of the Opera Message Board. Good luck Sarah
~~I do not fear death. It is what comes after death I fear.~~I see freedom dance and hatred fly.~~
I don't know who Justin Bailey is. It's interseting to think about, though. Metroid is one of my favorite games! I really hate it when people say Lara Croft was the first video game heroine, since Samus clearly was. The first female video game star was Ms. Pacman, but she wasn't really a "heroine." I love Samus! This game came out when I was a little kid, and I remember playing it all the time.
Apparently, and this information came from someone over in Europe, Justin Bailey isn't really a person at all. It's actually "Just In Bailey" which means to be only wearing a bathing suit of sorts. And since the password screen only used caps, it was nearlly impossible to tell that the 'JUSTIN' was meant to be two words and not the name.
Anyway, random funny trivial stuff I guess.
And as far as video game heroines, what about the Princess from Super Mario Bros. 2? That flying/floating ability came in very handy in a lot of levels. And then there was Rydia and Rose from Final Fantasy IV! Terra, Celes and Relm from F.F. VI. I think that most of the people who claim Lara Croft being the front runner of video game heroines were people in the Playstation generation.
Out of curiosity I am wondering where the "Justin Bailey" password came from. Did they put it in the instructions or something. I really don't remember since I have been playing this game since I was about five and my sister told me it.
Otherwise, I actually didn't know there was more than one of these games or the character's name was Samus.
But, *Smacks jakwright repeatedly across the face.* NO. NO. NO. NO. SMB 2 wasnt even a Mario game, It was some piece of crap from Japan called DokiDoki Panic... Nintendo said they were working on a sequel, which they were, but were afraid it was too hard for america. So, they did what was to be the first of many acts of crap: They slapped marios ugly little pug face on it. And now look what we have. Mario TENNIS, Mario DDR, Mario BASEBALL, Mario god knows what next.
...
And that concludes my completely irrelvant rant.
Seriously, Samus is the original Video Game heroine. She'll wtfpwn you any day. She could even wtfpwn The Scarecrow. Thats saying a lot.
Let's ot say things we can't take back :P Mario Tennis and Baseball are amazing. In fact, Mario sports games are probably the most fun brought to Marios legendary whoring out of his name ;)
Anyway, Justin Baily is not a name. If I remember from G4s Icon episode of Metroid, it's Just In Baily, an australian term for 'nothing but a bathing suit'.
My personal theory on the "Justin Bailey" phenomon was the Justin was not one of the highly skilled VG programers but rather was one to the lowley minimum wage earning game couselors who worked for "Nintendo Power" magazine (you know the job we all always wanted until we found out about the minimum wage part). The password itself is just a fluke, but I always imagined that it was discovered one typical afternoon down at Nintendo Power Inc. when a bunch of game counselor decided it would be a cool idea to try typing their names into the password screen on Metroid. Much to the delite of one counselor, one Mr. Justin Bailey, his name actually worked. He immediatly published this discovery in the Tips and Secrets section of Nintendo Power (which is where I first found out about it) and the rest was history.
I remember back in the late-80s/early-90s, Scholastic released a series of novels based on NES games, called the "Worlds of Power" series. Anyways, in the "Metal Gear" book, the author took it upon himself to reveal Solid Snake's real name as being... thats right, Justin Bailey. Obviously an obscure reference to the infamous Metroid passcode.
-------------- "Where's the 'john around here? I have to take a major leak." (perfect arabic)
that would be an awesome band name, but heres a better code than NARPAS SWORD,
this code gives you all powerups, including weird ice beam, infinite energy, infinite missles, ridley and kraid are dead, one (albeit useless) energy tank, and i havent checked it out in the game but i think mother brain is dead too.

all 0's are zeros and not letter os
metroid rules... i can play kraids hideouts theme music on my guit-fiddle
Acouple of weeks ago there was a pediphile case on CNN and the victem's name was Justin Bailey. I was at work and started chuckling; everyone thought I was demented....."No you don't get it, its a name in a game, its funny." They didn't understand.
Also, regarding passwords, the source code for the game has been reverse engineered. To the best of my knowledge, the only special password found was indeed the above mentioned "NAR PASSWORD", Justin Bailey are a normal password although found and publicized in an unusual way.
back some time in the middle ages (supposedly from what i have read) they wore a swimsuit type material during summer time that was called a Bailey, there for, Samus, was just in her bailey or for that matter just in a swimsuit. I don't know how accurate that actually is, but to the best of my knowledge that is the reasoning for the code.
