This movie has an idenity all of its own and deservedly so.
While it may be funny at times watching a confused FH stubble through life,many of us who grew up during that early 70,s time period can relate. FH using drugs to fill a void in his life is nothing new in life or film. The way he found his way out and discovered some redeeming values in his life was done smartley and with originality.
The players Crudup,Black,Leary,Hopper, Hunter are believable and play out well together
I wouldnt expect anyone to have a spiritual awakening but this was a good movie that went a little deeper than I thought

After watching this film I had vivid dreams. Spiritual warfare in my own life in relation to the film. No one on this board mentions the man in the snakeskin jacket, who is obviously Satan's Son.
Parallel universes, soul ties, life choices, events that change the path of our lives, the seemingly boring and mundane trivialities we endure that take us from one moment to the next, Our Own Personal Rapture (she scene where he touches the singing woman through the glass).
I agree; an under rated gem. I've watched this movie several time. I love it. Funny and sad. I recognized characters and the times from 1971.
shareI agree, this is a hugely underrated film. I wasn't expecting too much when I saw it but it was a very pleasant surprise and is probably one of my favourite films of the past decade.

shareI go for the underrated gem. I have watched this movie thrice now and it gets better every time.
The acting is great. Samantha Morton is convincing and has a natural odd look that works well in this kind of movie. Holly Hunter - she never lets me down. The story is sad and and hopeful, realistic and fantastic.
But Crudup - is just excellent. To me, Crudup is a "star" in any movie whether he wants to be or not.
