Michelle's job?

Just curious about how his girlfriend Michelle took off for Mexico to "work" and seemed to live in hotel rooms..........was she a prostitute? I didn't notice any direct references to that, but it seems that she would be in order to survive and support a habit.

she is probably more like a drug addict who occasionally prostitutes herself when there's no other way to get the money needed to buy more heroin. The guy who seems like a pimp, Dundun, played by the same guy who does Artie Bucco in Sopranos, might actually be a very controlling and jealous ex-boyfriend. In the book however, Dundun's character, who dies in F-Head's car from a gunshot wound, has no relation to F-Head's girlfriend, played by Samantha Morton, in the film. It was probably changed to connect the novel's disjointed stories together into a more cohesive storyline cinematically.

No. The guy who takes Michelle to Mexico is played Will Patton, Dundun is played by Greg German and he DOES NOT die, it's Michelle's ex'boyfriend McInnis who dies in the car played by John Ventimiglia (who was in the Sopranos)

you've confused at least 3 characters and actors to make me very confused.

Michelle's job Might bave been Stripping/Dancing it may also have been "muling" drugs across the border

reply

Yeah, you're right. Take exactly what I said and replace "Dundun" with "McInnes". I never said anything about the dude who persuades Michelle to go to Mexico. But intial scene when F-Head meets Michelle, you can see that McInnes is the jealous/violent type and one gets the feeling that maybe he pimped her out to people every once in a while. I got the names confused because I keep thinking about the actual book, where one of the short stories is titled "Dundun".

you're BOTH getting characters mixed up. michelle's boyfriend was macinnes, he did seem like a controlling boyfriend / pimp. dundun was played by michael shannon, he SHOT macinnes. greg german was the family doctor at the hospital, who didn't want to operate on the stabbed-in-the-eye man.

You're right, sorry.

I was nodding out on heroin at the time I was writing this.

Well this thread escalated quickly.

A lot of female addicts have similar paths. Make money where you can - stealing, prostitution, sex then rob the guy, scams, and finally the score. However, a lot of junkies feel that moving to another location, especially an exotic one like Mexico, can give them a fresh start at life. They know someone who can get them legit work and they can start again. However, addiction has strong ties and usually moving changes nothing -- they need to change themselves. At this point addicts usually return to their home area where they have a network of support, drug access, family and friends to scam out of money, shops that are easy to steal from. Dealers with good and cheap consistent product.

Anyway, I know it was left ambiguous, purposely, as Michelle wandered in and out of FH's life (especially when there were drugs around), and this was her time to reenter his life (after their last huge fight)... The rest is left to the viewer, but this is what this viewer thinks.
