Rape is not a Federal Crime

The film made a significant issue of the spectacle of a rapist Judge trying rape cases.

One problem, in the film he is a Federal Judge.
Rape comes under state and local law.
It would never come before a Federal Judge.

I am not sure if the Anwar character would appreciate that distinction. The average layperson probably hears judge and assumes would handle all kinds of cases.

In any event, it is not true that a federal judge would never handle a rape case. Rapes occurring on federal property or of government officials would be federal crimes. Indeed, Wiki has an entire section describing federal rape laws

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_the_United_States#Criminal_punishment.

But it's a serious mistake to make in a film about lawyers and judges.

Also, did he win a federal case about murder? There is no federal law against murder, either. Was it about fraud, instead?
