There was going to be a second movie in 1987

I read about these books that came out in the 80's about teen stars, there were a couple of people from the Goonies cast ( I do believe one was Martha Plimpton). With the people's names were a list of the movies that each had been in, and "Goonies 2" was listed by some of their names. So obviously it was supposed to happen.

Also, I read that they had fully planned on releasing the second Goonies in 1987. This was all from a reliable source. I just wonder why it fell through because back then the movie was still new and fresh.

reply

I think it was that no-one was ready to direct it, that could be why, I'm not too sure.

reply

Steven Spielberg doesn't do sequils?

reply

He didnt direct the first one, and of course he does sequels, the indiana jones TRILOGY, Jurrassic park and the lost world.

reply

Then who wrote the story for the unreleased Goonies 2?

Also, it wouldn't be too hard to do a sequel today. Sure, we couldn't have the original cast, but it could still be good.
Actually I was thinking maybe they could redo Goonies 1 with the same cast they would do Goonies 2, change Bran to a lesbian big sister, and keep the rest (including the score) the same.

reply

Haha, "Bran-da" the older lesbian sister, that's hilarious. It would be funny watching her give Mikey noogies and headlocks. But wait, is Branda in love with Andy, too! Eww, disgusting, hahahahaha! Yeah, and how about this, Mouth is always hitting on Branda, and she slaps him around. It would be cool if they ever did do a Goonies sequel. I'm going to check out that website with the "forgotten" script right now.

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!

reply

What website with a "forgotten" script? Don't keep us in the dark.

reply

All right, here is the website! It is at http://erikandtami.com/opening.htm. I printed it out yesterday, I am halfway done with it. It's okay, but it needs a lot of changes made to it. I like the beginning though, it gives a story about One-Eyed Willy and the Inferno. I hear that if you go to that website but leave off the "opening.htm" part, it will take you to the website of the people who created the script. But if you really want a good laugh, go to rainbowanimation.com and check out the Sloth cartoons, they're HILARIOUS. Especially the Sloth Talk Shows.

Bay-bee Ruth, Baby Ruth. MMMMM, CHOCOLATE, haha! Long live the memory of Sloth!

reply

if you must know spielberg directed jurassic park and he also directed the lost world so tell me how does he not do sequals dummy?

In many magazine articles at the time of the movie's release the cast and crew did say that there would definitely be a sequel and that it was being planned for release in 1987.

reply

All of these posts have kept me rolling! A RE-DO of Goonies just wouldn't be right. COULDN'T BE DONE RIGHT. Sean Astin immortalized Mikey Walsh. If anything, they should do some sort of reunion adventure movie, with ALL the old cast members. It COULD be money. With the right writers and the right director...

reply

What they should do is get the original cast all grown up, they come to town for something like a school reunion and they have one last adventure.

reply

I thought that watching the video commentary with the adult cast on the DVD was a great reunion--one of the best DVD commentaries I've seen.

Well, since this was filmed back in '85, and they were all kids, I think a sequel could totally work right now. Most of them are still in great shape. Besides, it's not like Corey Feldman has an insane schedule these days..

"What the hell happened to those droids at the end of episode III?"

reply

Yes they would probably do it, but who besides those who were kids back in '85 would go see a sequel? The magic and innocence would be gone.

reply

Well..I was born in 1987 and The Goonies is one of my favourite childhood movies...I would definitely go to see a sequal

reply

Yes, but with the original cast as now 30-40 something adults returning for another adventure? It just wouldn't be the same kind of movie as the original, which was kids being kids!

"Yes, but with the original cast as now 30-40 something adults returning for another adventure?"

Oh, come on. it's a brilliant idea!

Mikey: "Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket."
Mouth: "You guys still live at home?"

Stef: "This is ridiculous. It's crazy. I feel like I'm babysitting, except we're all adults."

Chunk: "Whats all the stuff in the attic?"
Mikey: "It has something to do with my dad being the assistant curly, curny."
Brandon: "Curator."
Mikey: "That's what I said."
Data: "You guys still live with your pawents?"
Mikey: "You mean parents?"
Data: THATS WHAT I SAID! PAWENTS! God. These Guys!

Hey, this guy's not gonna leak all over my ice cream, is he?
