The Name??

Does anyone know why this is clled The Goonies II? Were there plans to make a sequel but they stopped it?

reply

What the hell am I doing on a message board for a video game?!?!? Oh well, the reason that it was called Goonies II was actually was a "Goonies" video game released as well. I only played the "Goonies" three times in my life, all three times were in an arcade type machine. I know that once was in one of those "Choice Ten" machines that was a nintendo with a time limit (Does anyone remember these things, or better yet will anyone ever read this?). But before that I remember playing it as a regular arcade game in an arcade in New Hampshire. All I remember about it was somehting about using lots of bombs and rats that tried to kill you. Anyway, are you still reading? But if it was in a choice ten I guess that there must be a Nintendo Cartadge out there somewhere of the original, hell since I've never seen one and it does say Goonies it might be worth money.
As for a Sequal, why the hell would there be a sequal?

reply

fear not someone read it!
i had to reply cos u sounded as lost as i was! "are you still reading?" ROFL
"what the hell am i doing here" thats what i thought too!
when did inmb start doing video games??? and how come no ones commented on that?
well, u did kinda

i came here to read about the goonies the film and end up reading about goonies 2 the videogame and the reviews make no mention of the goonies characters and its hard to tell if its related at all.
well at first :)
it took me ages to realise i was even reading about a video game!

i cant remember if i ever played the 1st videogame - it was availiable on the 8-bit computers too.

anyway bye

reply

Yes, your right. Once upon a time I owned a pirated copy of this came on my Commadore 64, lol.

Well, There is an official release of The Goonies for the NES but it was released only in Japan. You could import them but you will need to find a Famicom to NES (60 pins to 72 pins) converter to make the cart fit. It was made available on Nintendo Playchoice 10 arcade but it wasn't popular.

Goonies II is the sequel to that game and the only one released in USA for the NES. I liked the game a lot, it's a large game with lots of puzzles and challenges to solve. In comparasion, the original Goonies game sucks.

reply

true, but the VG of goonies wasn't just only on a playchoice 10 - it was also a stand-alone game as well. but the NES's goonies II was much more cartoon like, and was completely off the wall. you had to save the goonies one by one, and then save a mermaid. yeah, it's weird but definitely a good game. one of my favorites from the era.

posting about a video game on a movie website, i love it!!!

-excuse me, how do you get to the freeway?
-f--k yo momma!
-thank you very much...

reply

Why import it if you can just download the rom? It's easier to find too.

hahaha...do you know how few people are actually willing to admit that they ever owned a Commodore 64?? Its crazy to realize that my dad still has a working one. I used to play games on it when I was little, but never anything about Goonies, despite the fact that I would have loved to. I was, and still am, a huge Goonies fan. I think the game we played the most was Archon (or however you spell that). I also think the last time I ever seriously played a console game was on my Grandpa's NES, (show's what a girl I am, that I just thought it was call the Original Nintendo until my bro told me the other day that it was called NES) I was a kick-butt Duck-hunt player for a 6 year old. But once again, we never played Goonies. With all the revival of old games happening for PC and the newer game consoles (I do know a bit more now, as I work at Family Video, and so, I see a lot of console games come through the store) I should think there'd be an interest in making a new updated Goonies game. I mean, now that it came to Dvd and all. Well, I don't have a clue why I'm posting about a video game, as the only ones I currently play are The Monkey Island Games and Myst Games, and a Puzz 3d game I actually, shock of all shocks, bought for myself, so I'll go now, haha

reply

Yeah, true.
I actually had the cassette tape drive and a printer for mine. I was an Army brat and had access to many games through military friends. I would guess-timate that I had around 400 games at any given time.
It was rough playing some games. You could go make a sandwhich and watch TV for a bit come back and find it still loading the game.
Or my all time favorite...the little programs you could run. Type for an hour just to see a goofy smiley face bounce around the screen.
Whew, those where the days.

The Commodore 64 Goonies game was completely different from the Nintendo Goonies. The Goonies c64 game involved something like 8 stages based around the movie, where in each stage, 2 kids would have to solve a puzzle according to a clue from the "map". It was an awesome game at the time, at least we thought so. I remember on the first level you had to go up to the attic of the Fratelli's hideout and use the counterfeit money machine to make money rain out the window down onto Ma Fratelli to distract her as she tried to catch it all. Then your other buddy would break the water cooler in the basement to make a hole to escape down. And there was the tense moment where the buddy up in the attic would have to drop the last bill out the window and race it all the way down and also jump into the hole just before Ma Fratelli could catch him.

Anyway, the Goonies NES game was a standard side-scrolling game, where you are Mikey and there are bad guys and you get to the exit or something. (And then the Goonies II took the basic gameplay and graphics and used it for a much more fun and involved game.)

It is now two years since I made my first reply on this thread this thread and I am very happy (and a little scared as well) that at least a few people remember this and it is another thing that I don't have to confirm having imagined. Wow it's been a helluva ride! And thanks to all of you for replying, you have proven that I am not the only person with a memory of strange 80's junk, and that this country has way to much time on it's hand. It's been a hellauva ride!

And, almost 2 years later LOL another reply.

In my arcade, the Goonies games were part of a 2 or 3 screen stand up cabinet, depending on what the owner wanted at the time. Super Mario Brothers was always on one screen. If it was a 3 screen, Excitebike was on the 2nd and The Goonies or The Goonies II was on the other.

Somehow this is one of those wierd threads that still gets replies years after the original post. Anyway. I ddin't know there was a Goonies II arcade game. I remember teh Goonies for famicom being put in cabinets but how would a person play the goonies II in an arcade?

Ringfingers are like the back of car seats. You don't appreciate it untill it's not there.

Hi again!
I was just seeing how far back the post history went, for my account at least, and this is about the oldest one....
4 years!

and now the boards full of threads! is there some sort of revival going on?

IMDB is weird man.

I made the first reply 8 years ago. Holy crap it's now like looking at an old photograph of yourself.

What's really weird is I made that reply right after they redid IMDB and erased all the message boards. Does anyone even remember THAT?
