Watching this again, I just realized that when they changed the past and created 7 new Nightengale victims, that they saved all but one of them. Dad's life was spared, but the price is that one woman is now dead who wasn't supposed to die in the original timeline. Seems like the universe balancing the scales or something.

We don't know if she did die. She wasn't in the pile of Nightingale victims so we don't know if she was killed pre-mom or post-mom. Since Jake quickly figured out who killed her, I don't think she was killed as Jake didn't mention trying to save her or blamed himself for her death like he blamed himself for the seven other victims.
