the Buxton fire and John, in 1999, is being flooded with memories, we see his mother in memories of him being teenager, and graduating the police academy. However, shortly after 99that scene we find out John's mother became a victim of the Nightingale murders. During the funeral we see that John is still very young when his mother was killed, so she would not have been around during his teenage years nor see him graduate from the police academy.

Because the events that caused her to die hadn't happened yet. What caused that change was her running over and stopping the doctor from giving medicine that would have killed the killer. The "magic" off this movie is that things don't change in the present until something happens in the past that would affect.

Or to put it another way. It's like the events in 69 are happening at the same time in 99.

I haven't seen it all the way thru in years. This time I watched all the way thru. Love the ending. I didn't remember it at all.

What Doc80 said. His mom hadn’t been killed yet since the past events had been changed so of course he would have memories from that.
