Jenny (AP) doesn't really want the job she's given and Maria (TSoM) is unwilling to work for the von Trapps, but since it's God's will, she does.

The children despise her at first, but then become very attached to her and push she and Mr. Colwell together as the movie progresses. Just like in TSoM with Maria and Captain von Trapp.

A lot of the movie is set in Salzburg, where TSoM takes place.

Vivian Burger is a much more cruel than Baroness Schraeder, but they both play the same role.

At the end of AP, Colwell is telling Jenny she can leave just the the Captain tells Maria in TSoM. Then, Jenny gives him a short speech on how he doesn't know his children at all. Just like Maria.

Hmmm, never thought about it but yes it is a lot alike. I absolutely love The Sound of Music so maybe that's why I love Au Pair a lot too. Maybe the writer of Au Pair was inspired by TSoM.
