I thought the whole film what wholly entertaining and great until the last ten minutes with the stupid blob thing, (albiet I did like that it looked like those images used by psychaitrists). I actually really enjoyed all the performances except for ali larter. Chris Kattan was surprisingly good. What were your thoughts?
agreed... the ink blot 'evil' at the end ruined it for me. not to mention pritchets ghost opening the window..
i thought the ghosts that were 'just playing games' were a million times creepier than the 'evil'... honestly i would rather get taken over by a black blob made up of naked women than be stalked by those creepy head shakers. ugh.
my only other problem was dr vanacutt... he was the crazy detective in the movie The Frighteners.. so i couldnt take him seriously. [and now that i think about it, Pritchets ghost looked like the ghosts in The Frighteners too.]
The ending with the blob thing and the rooftop is NOT how this film ends. After the credits, there is an epilogue scene. If you have not seen it, check it out on youtube NOW. That scene gives this film one of the scariest endings I've ever seen to a horror film.
I loved the movie! Ali Larter was kind of good in it. I think that this film would have been better if it had more scenes with ghosts, gore, more background on characters, chase scenes around the house, and if they wouldn't delete the scene with all the zombies.
Oh yeah and take away the darkness that was just silly. They should have made the darkness very very scary! It was the big bad of the house so it makes sense that it should.
I love this movie and never get tired of watching it!
That blob scared me bad back when I saw a trailer of the movie that had it sliding down a wall; but I admit it isn't that effective when you actually see all the scenes. The creepy ghosts and victims manipulating situations to get revenge was much scarier. Still I like this version better than the original.
I'm not reading your manifesto....keep your damn posts short!
Oh yes! Frigg'n AWESOME! I love William Malone's films; he has such a bloody creative visual style. BTW, if you haven't seen his newer 'PARASOMNIA' yet, you HAVE to do so!!!
I have over 4000 films, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!
to tell you the truth it was better than I thought that it would be.. sure the original is better,, how can you top Vincent Price.. but being that this was supposed to be a former Insane Asylum it doesn't follow original quite exactly... are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite
This has always been a movie I've enjoyed. Is it a "guilty pleasure?" Probably, but I've seen it dozens of times and I never get tired of it. The original is highly enjoyable as well. Famke Janssen and Geoffrey Rush are a wonderful bickering married couple and you can tell that Rush in particular was relishing his performance here.
This is one of my favorite (horror) movies. Highely atmospheric, scary and intense throughout, nice soundtrack, setting and several minutes unrepeatable mind-tripping sequence. So, I'd say it's very good. As for ending, well... cliche.
