Several months after she turns herself in, Joanna is alone in a crummy inner-city apartment. Detective Rico, now six months pregnant, visits her. Joanna is baking cookies. She was sentenced to probation and lost her driver's license for a year. Rico asks if her husband makes it hard to see her daughters, and Joanna says no. She is reluctant to discuss her daughters, and tells Rico about her job in a bookstore. Rico urges her to seek out her daughters and teach them about forgiveness.
The last scene shows Joanna waiting at her daughters' school, just like she used to. The other moms see her and mutter angrily among themselves. Her daughters run over to Joanna and they hug, then they are seen walking away together.
About the other moms who saw Joanna and muttered angrily among themselves, I would say, "Don't pay any attention to them, Joanna. They don't know anything."
