Embezzlement scheme?

Reportedly, BE had the biggest budget of any Hollywood film to date at the time. For the budget BE had, the movie should've looked spectacular. Instead, it literally looked like one of those syndicated low budget sci-fi TV shows that used to run on local channels during the weekend. Where did all the money go?

Well Scientology, (not trying to be sarcastic)

Personally, I don't think the movie looks cheap; just bad. No embezzlement scheme, just bad ideas and bad execution. All evidence says that The Church of Scientology wanted the movie to be good and to succeed.

Not true but it was higher than it should be. The studio was sued and went bankrupt.

Correct, the budget was ballooned to I think seventy or eighty million when it cost far less. Did the studio not think they were gonna get caught?
