Yusuke and Keiko

Do you think Yusuke loves Keiko in a romantic way?

reply

I definitely think so. In the beginning, it's not apparent because I really don't think he recognizes it (they are pretty young after all) until he dies.

And after that, it just becomes more and more apparent as the series goes on.

Although some would hint he likes Botan quite a bit too... But I think that, in the end, he'd always choose Keiko romantically.

reply

^Yeah, that's true.
Even though I don't like Keiko and think that she and Yusuke are all wrong for each other. Then again, it might have to do with me being jealous. I've had a crush on Yusuke ever since I saw him- since I was 11. ^^

reply

I get the impression he loves her just in a friend way...

reply

Fair enough. How much of the series have you seen? Cause that might change perception of their relationship.

reply

Well, okay, I'll be the first to admit that I didn't like Keiko in the beginning (it drives me crazy when the girl is always beating on the guy) but as the show went, I tolerated her more and more. (Yeah, she can't protect herself.... but that's to be expected considering she's one of the few people in the show that doesn't have powers)

I'm curious. Other than the fact that you have a crush on Yusuke (understandable), why do you think Keiko and Yusuke are wrong for each other? (hey, I've got my own theories about who Yusuke should and shouldn't be with, lol)

reply

LOL. It's not just that I'm jealous. I can be mature and professional about this.

I know Yusuke and Keiko share a special bond but to me, they feel more brother/sister than a romantic couple. I seriously thought that Yusuke was either going to pair up with Botan or nobody at all. That's why it was a surprise for me when the show started showing Keiko and Yusuke more.

Tian:I don't have a crush on Yusuke.He's an anime character ^^

I just see things like Stellian:in mature and professional way.Yusuke and Keiko grew up together, she did a lot of good stuff for him...their relationship can be seen in many different lights...

reply

Not that there's anything wrong with being jealous. Lol. Yusuke's pretty hot stuff (granted, I didn't even think about it for a long time, but I'm pretty sure I subconsciously thought so from the beginning).

Of course, I was a Kurama fan outwardly from the beginning... It seems he's a pretty good 'diving board' character for girls (even I was taken in, lol), but now I've developed a bigger fondness for Yusuke. And Koenma.

Anyway, back to the topic on hand. From a personal standpoint, although I did see hints to Yusuke and Botan being a couple, I really prefer their relationship to stay on a friendship/partner basis. But really, that's just because I find that sort of relationship more enjoyable to watch in an action-y show such as this.

And, in the long run... maybe Yusuke will end up with no one, considering

Yusuke does have demon-blood in him. Of course, he seems to have an awful lot of fun in the Makai with Kurama and Hiei (and Kuwabara to an extent too). Or maybe he'll have a kid with Keiko and raise him/her much like he was raised... er, without the alcoholic mother.

Atsuko may be an alcoholic, but I persoanlly like Atsuko and don't see her as a bad mother (it sounds odd, I know)
She could've been like other teenaged mothers and given up Yusuke or had abortion, but she didn't. Plus, considering the way Yusuke turned out, I don't hold anything against her and neither does Yusuke, I'm sure.

Tian, you've got VERY good taste.

What I love about Yusuke is his eyes, his rebellious spirit, his loyalty and devotion to his friends and loved ones.
Plus, he's very muscular and slim and figurish at the same time (waaaay better than me )
He's seen as stupid, by many people, but I don't see it that way. He acts before thinking a lot (so do I) but he's not stupid; actually he can be pretty clever when he has to (even if it does involve some luck ^^)

I liked Kurama, but he never really appealed to me, except in the fanfictions (where story told form his point of view) but in the end, Yusuke is always the one that comes to mind (plus too many Kurama and Hiei fans to fight off anyways. )

I know I keep going on and on about Yusuke blah, blah, blah
But, just to let you know (whether you care or not)) I love all the characters; each and every one of them. ^^

reply

Oh yes, I completely agree with you about Atsuko. Although she has some weird friends, lol, she is definitely a good mother. Of course, she did turn around (some) when Yusuke had died, so she did become more responsible then. And although I think Yusuke is embarrassed by her (as all teens are), he definitely cares about her, and doesn't hold anything against her.

*SPOILER*
What I meant when I mentioned her is, actually, that Yusuke might raise his child part of the time in the human world and then part in the Makai.... if he even has kids, that is. For now, I think he'll just run his ramen shop, lol.
*End SPOILER*

Hmmm, what else can I say about Yusuke that you already haven't? Of course, I don't see why people consider him stupid. As you said, he does act before thinking, but that really only shows him as passionate, and not stupid. Man, what are those people thinking?

Yeah, they are sort of THE couple of the series (though, I prefer Shinobu and Itsuki now), and I wouldn't deny that they so obviously exist (Even Togashi-san said they become a couple after the series ends)... thus, they have become the source of many a raving fangirl. Kinda scary at times, yes?

I love all the characters as well..... Okay, well, maybe not Togoro-aniki, but uh, he's just one of those pure-evil characters that doesn't exactly have any redeeming features to me.

reply

Are you serious?! So Kurama and Hiei ARE a real couple in the series?! *daydreaming very naughty things right now...*

reply

Keiko waiting years for Yusuke is ridiculous.

reply

Well, I see what you mean, but at the same time...

Yusuke and Keiko are actually pretty young. From what I remember/can tell, they're only just starting high school. And Keiko herself didn't even take the relationship seriously for quite a while. I believe it was the first major tournament in the show (in the Makai - I forget the name) where she realized she really DID love him in a serious way.

And at that point, I think they basically became a couple, even though Yusuke is... well... probably like a lot of young boys. He wants to hang out with his friends and get into fights... Okay, well maybe not all boys his age want to fight, but you get my meaning, right? As for Keiko, she doesn't seem to mind too much from what I remember. She seems like the supportive wife type when it comes down to it, so...

Of course, most girls that age are more mature than their male friends/peers so unless Yusuke was really really mature for his age, she would have had to wait for just about anyone.

reply

That's right. I forget where I read the interview, but Togashi was definitely appealing to the fans there, lol. I'm not sure if that was his original intent, but apparently he likes shonen-ai couples (why else would he canonly pair Shinobu and Itsuki in the series?) and didn't mind that everyone was saying Kurama and Hiei are a couple. I believe, though, that they aren't actually 'dating' while the series goes on (Hiei's got too many hangups at first? I dunno), but afterwards, it definitely happens.

reply

Hiei and Kurama are not a couple. People who talk about that stuff must be gay or at least likes gay stuff like that.

Well, it wouldn't really make sense for people to root for Kurama and Hiei if they weren't into "gay stuff like that," would it? 

Deckzone3000: = People who haven't fully become gay yet.

Bisexual doesn’'t always lead to becoming completely gay.

reply

Okay. So... Are you just saying they're not gay because you don't like 'gay stuff like that'? Or is it because they never directly 'say' that they're interested in each other? And, that makes me curious: what are your thoughts on Shinobu and Itsuki?

reply

Yusuke does ask Keiko to mary him when he gets back i would think thats a pretty serious relationship

reply

I actually never got the impression that Hiei and Kurama were a couple, and have been kind of sad for them since I realized how many people are so sure they are. For my exhibit on why Hiei and Kurama are not a couple, or gay, I point to three things.

SPOILERS ALL******

1) The conversation they have where Kurama jokingly tells Hiei "I value your friendship, but not in that way." He calls Kurama an idiot, and Kurama laughingly tells him he was just kidding. To me, that's pretty conclusive.

2) I got the strong impression that Hiei hooked up with Makuro after the Three Kings tournament.

3) Kurama seemed severely freaked out by the strange sadistic crush Karasu displayed toward him in the Dark Tournament.

Of course, I don't have any problem with the boys being gay if they want to be, but I'm equally at peace with them liking girls if it makes them happy. And to me, it seems pretty clear that the do. Sensui and Itsuki..... that's a horse of an entirely different color

That could just be because of the creepy, sadistic way Karasu shows his err- affections. Not necessarily because Kurama minds attention from men (within bounds).

reply

no, I think he likes her and just sees being with her as the right thing to do, at least in the time depicted in the series

reply

Yes, of course!

I never felt the chemistry and really I don't care. She was annoying. Even the creator found her to be annoying.
