IM SPEECHLESS

im speechless with the posts i've read here today. I just saw this movie & i think its great. i mean with all the crap that comes out of hollywood, it's so hard 2 find a realy good movie. im just realy shocked. i know people r different & we all have different taste in movies but im new to spanish movies, only just recently started watching them & so far they just keep getting better & better. i too am a huge film fan. seen most of the classics. but wow, just wanted 2 say im shocked with all the negativity. its unreal how different people can really b! this movie 4 me was pretty much flawless & im not afraid 2 say that but i also know its because i just watched it. i thought i would never get over films like 'city of god', 'scarface,' and 'once upon a time in america' but i did so i know this feeling will not last 4ever. but i do know that i love movies that blow me away just like this 1 did. im sorry 2 repeat myself but i just cant get over the fact that people can diss this movie soo much with all the crap movies i've seen!!

I agree 100%. I just dont get how some people can call this garbage. Im still not over how great this movie was. Most of the people who have something bad to say about this film dont even explain why...Its almost like they just want a reaction.

The first half hour I watched this movie I thought it was a comedy. My thought was: "so muche overdone drama, this can't be real". I was the only one laughing, and people got annoyed with me laughing. Then I realized this wasn't a comedy, and there actually existed people who could watcht this movie and take all the overdone drama seriously. It was like watching a very bad soap opera.

I did like Piedras though, although it was a bit overly dramatic too.

i dont think anyone is "dissing" it.
just clearly not everyone loves this film!
Personally i thought it was ok and gave it a 7/10.

i think people like you overrate it just because its not "holywood" and this is definitely the message you put across in ur op.
just cos holywood comes up with loads of crap doesn't mean its ALL crap...
a good example of a holywood remake being better than the original (spanish version) is Vanilla sky over Abre los ojos. im sure u disagree if uve seen them but thats my opinion.
Generally i dont like Holywood either, but you cant just go into films subconciously putting it down because its holywood!

The OP would obviously find the designation tragi-comedy a bridge too far ... something not one thing or the other, but both is completely beyond his imagination ... if he wants realism, he should go see a Cassavetes movie.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

You are completely right. That is the beauty of the film industry, you can watch tens of films back to back and think they are all *beep* then come across a beautiful piece of what can only be described as "art", such as Todo sobre mi madre, and some people find insignificant flaws. These film forums are pissing me off, because every day i read new posts which are completely *beep* inconsequential. A message to all you thousands of wanna be film critics - *beep* respect *beep* films for what they *beep* are!" I could bet you any money that all the great directors out there would agree with me.

Watched it for the first time and it was wonderful. A bit slow to begin with and too me a while to feel engaged but once Manuela became involved with Huma, it took me away. I cried when Lola/Esteban held his son. Then the lines from his recently deceased son Esteban about missing half of himself because he did not know his father pushed me over the edge. This continued when Huma was rehearsing her role in a Lorca play about the blood from her character's child. LOved Cecilia Roth and Marisa Paredes.
