Stone Cold had more than 3 years on top.

Not really, no. He was a huge deal but his injuries cut his time at the top short.

Stone Cold was the most popular wrestler in 1997 too, right after the face turn at Wrestlemania 13. They didn’t officially make him the #1 booked talent until 1998, but the fans took to Austin in 1997.

Shawn Michaels was never more popular than Bret Hart. Shawn was never a huge box-office name.

I’m not sure about Austin for 2001. That heel turn really hurt his brand name, and he didn’t recover from it until 2003.

John Cena was the most popular in 2005.

You can make a case for Jeff Hardy in 2008-2009.
