Fans In 1997

For anybody that was watching in 1997, when Kane made his debut did everybody know that Kane was 'Fake' Diesel/ Isaac Yankem DDS or did most fans not know this since internet wasn't as big?

Always wondered this, thanks.

I definitely didn't know but I feel like I found out not long after his debut from a wrestling magazine. But at the time? Nope, no idea. It's arguably one of the best debut entrances of any WWE wrestler; months of build up and good storytelling with a cool pay off at the end.

WWE Studios could/should do a movie about the childhood of Kane and Taker and the events that led to Taker setting the funeral home on fire. Would be decent if done right.

Think, McFly. Think!

Nobody knew right away. The Kane build up took a long time. It was several months of Paul Bearer teasing him, and then he finally showed up at King of the Ring. It was awesome, because through that story we saw one of the best times that Undertaker "died" and took weeks to come back.

It was only after a few months that people started catching on to who Kane actually was, and yes, it took longer to spread. There were message boards at the time, but the internet was not the instant knowledge of anything you want as it is now. I imagine everybody would have known before he ever debuted if that happened today.

Basically what the previous posters have said. I just wanted to add on the message boards statement. I remember their being java chat rooms with over watching admins that were lit up in red. Don't really recall many message boards at that time. WWF chat room was the worst hands down. But there were others that were better. Anybody else remember the chat rooms?

"If someone asks if you're a God you say YES!"

reply

I was 10 or 11 when I was on the chatrooms. They were ridiculous. People would constantly make private rooms and pretend to be wrestlers holding a Q&A. It was such a mess.

reply

So he is not really Undertakers brother?

reply

I didn't know or care until I saw it in a Wrestling Magazine Publication at a bookstore reveal it
