Does any one why the britsh show stoped??

reply

There was only ever meant to be one series, but it was such a hit C4 wanted a second series, RTD found it hard to continue with it as the story was told, so just continued what was left and ended it on a high. I'm glad as its better to go out on a high.

He did write a spin-off called "Misfits" no Stuart or Vince as their story was told but stories about the other characters, but production halted due to money and then RTD was asked to write Dr.Who and it never got made. RTD is said to do a new drama along the QAF lines, so it may be made in the future.

Where did you hear about "Misfits"? Do you know what characters were going to take centre stage? I'd like to see more of Phil but I guess that isn't possible. And Bernie in his younger days, ha ha.

reply

Hazel/Alex/Bernie characters was said to be involved but schedules to get altogether was hard and so it was put on the shelf- still there probably but 11yrs is too bigger gap to start now.

reply

Oh, and I heard about it when they did a dvd collectors edition- there was a little booklet with it written by RTD, all was revealed there.

Storyline told or not, it's still sad that it's ended. I still haven't seen episodes, 5-8 (if anyone knows where they're available online...PLEASE let me know), but the show was brilliant and I could watch it forever! Right now I'm watching the American version...just finished S1 and I'm waiting for S2 and S3 to arrive in the mail...which, I must admit isn't as good (acting, characterization, etc...), but I'm still enjoying (had to get through the first 4 epis before I could stand it).

An American DVD of QAF UK is said to getting released soon on R1.

One thing you have to remember is most British TV shows only last a year or two, and each season, they only do about 6-12 episodes. I remember I was a big fan of The Young Ones (which MTV aired Stateside) back in the 80's, there were all kinds of rumors going around about why there were only 12 episodes. The truth is, it was just a regular British TV show, they did two series, each one was 6 episodes, and they moved onto other work.

So there only being 10 episodes of Queer As Folk isn't unusual.

Long running shows on British TV (eg Doctor Who, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, etc) are a lot rarer.
