I have had a feeling that James was gay which was whybhevfeltblike an outcast.

I don't remember there being any scene where he is having sex, but it is certainly implied that he might have by a scene where he wakes up the next morning in bed with Crabtree and the scene at the nightclub where Crabtree has his hand under the table, apparently on James, sitting next to him.

Yes he was. Him and Crabtree had sex in the end of the movie, and he listened to Rogers and Hammerstein records.
