Homage (or ripoff) of :

1. Some Kind of Wonderful. Obvious if you have seen the movie

2. Karate Kid.
Blonde jealous boyfriend and friends coming down the snowhill on their snowmobiles and chasing the new love interest. Just switch snow hill to sand dune and snowmobiles to dirt bikes.

3. Christmas Vacation . Where else have we seen Chevy Chase sliding down a snowy hill on some type of apparatus

Of course this movie was not not as even remotely as good as the above mentioned, just things that made me go hmmm, this movie stinks and rips off others.
