I did a marathon with Shanghai Noon

I did this movie, Rush Hour, Wild Wild West, and Django Unchained and titled the marathon When Unlikely Partnerships Form. You guys can check it out on my blog.

Shanghai Noon is a fun movie that's not meant to be taken seriously. While the film isn't as good as Rush Hour, it still has a lot of fun with the same concept except this time it's in the Wild West and Owen Wilson plays Jackie Chans sidekick instead of Chris Tucker. Lucy Liu is hot and plays a great kidnapped princess that needs saving. The most hilarious moments come near the films third act when Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan are cutting loose in the bubble bath scene. That *beep* was funny as well as the horse getting drunk. Haha

For me I prefer Shanghai Noon to Rush Hour (1998) mostly because I think it made me laugh more, and Jackie Chan's character was more sympathetic and we got to see more personal growth throughout the film. I might just prefer Owen Wilson as a hapless but charming sidekick to Chris Tucker not playing by the rules attitude, which really does fit the buddy cop genre perfectly.

It's interesting how in both films the damsel in distress has a few moments of kicking ass before being subdued, and a secondary female character who gets to help save the day. I didn't really get the romance switcheroo at the end but the romance always seemed like an afterthought compared to the friendship between Owen and Jackie.

I only saw Wild Wild West (1999) once, and that seemed like plenty. Django Unchained (2012) has really superb acting, and great partnership. Cool blog by the way.
