Excerpt from Jacques Doillon's foreword to the film

Kids are bored ... They live on the edge of a society where the rich will do anything to get richer. Well, the little states of poverty will do exactly the same ... They'll get into mischief, they'll get into trouble, over nothing and for nothing. Just to chase boredom away, to dazzle their pals, to do what everyone else does.

The poor, the homeless, people on welfare ... they're surplus ... And there's too many of them, everyone will tell you that. Now it's the kids' turn to be pointed at. They're surplus too.

A nervous society is crazy enough to reject its surplus and not love its liveliest, most joyful children, the best of itself. Yes, the kids are demanding. Yes, they want a bed and a Playstation, but they also want consideration, affection, interest, time, trust. So demanding! What next, a job?

Well said that man!

I enjoyed the film and whilst it lacked rhythm sometimes the interactions amongst the children and their moments of sweeteness made up for a loose script.
