I love this game to death and I play it at least once a year. Something that has always confused me though is the future/past aspect of the game. Link is held in the chamber for 7 years, and when he wakes up he goes to awaken the 6 sages. After he does this and he beats Ganondorf/Ganon, the sages seal him in the evil realm. My question is, what is to stop Ganondorf in the past, since he is still running around? The future timeline is fixed, but isn't he still causing chaos in the past? And does Link have to re-live the future sequence? Somebody please help me with this cuz I'm really confused.

I believe after Link goes back they catch Ganondorf before he can do anything, thus preventing it from happening.

At the end of the game, Zelda sends link back to before he ever pulled the master sword in the first place, thus keeping Ganon out of the Sacred Realm. This is different from the time travel link does by inserting/removing the master sword in the game. Basically, Link had to help Zelda repair that Timeline before she could send Link back to keep his timeline intact.
