Englebert Humperdinck...mistake on Eddy's part ?

Although the renaming of Gerry Dorsey is hilarious, the new name wasn't made up as Eddie suggests. There was a German composer of that name(1854-1921)and the name was taken from this.
Whether or not Eddie knows this fact and is having fun I really don't know!

reply

You're right that there was a German composer of that name, but this is not whom Eddie is referencing. The Englebert Humperdinck that Eddie is referring to was a British pop singer in the 60's-70's. He was born Arnold Gerry Dorsey, but, after struggling to make it in music, changed his name to Englebert Humperdinck (after the composer you've mentioned).

reply

Yes that's my point actually....Eddy is suggesting that the 60's singer had a ridiculous MADE UP name by his manager when in fact it was taken from the composer.Sorry about the confusion.

reply

I'm sure he knew. It's just a good gag, like how Hanibal didn't intend on going over the alps with skiis but had to settle for elephants.

--Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter--

reply

Yeah ...I'd be surprised if he didn't as he seems a well educated guy.

reply

I'm not so sure you understand comedy. He wasn't lecturing, he was telling jokes. They don't have to be true. He also probably doesn't actually believe that Jesus visited the dinosaurs or that the street car in San Francisco is transporting criminals to Alcatraz.

Jokes.

reply

Ok ...lets not flog this post to death. My understanding of comedy is fine thanks!

reply

Apparently not

reply

Are you sure he wasn't talking about Englebert Slapptyback?

Hungerhill will go down in history as one of the lamest "ackchyually" dorks of all time.
