He always talks to Plank and thinks that Plank actually can talk to him, i think the Ed's traumatized Johnny or something because it is really weird for someone to talk to a piece of wood. :D

It's not uncommon for kids to have imaginary friends. Besides, it's just a character quirk for a comedic cartoon show.

Seth McFarlane has a friggin' TV set for a brain.

Well, I thought Plank was just a piece of wood too, until I saw him driving a bus by himself in the movie. ;)
