DVD?

I did some research and I figured out that MGM is the most likely corperation that owns the rights to Universal Soldier. The original corperation was Hemdale (who made the first Terminator) and they sold their film rights to MGM.

Anybody think it'll ever be on DVD?

reply

No. It's too obscure and there's not a sufficient demand for it.

I think I saw it available on VHS at amazon and I've heard that it can be obtained by other means...

reply

Yeah, I saw the DVD and I bought it. I just wish I could find the better-quality British tape, as I have the American. The British one says "This Man's Buisness is WEAPONS".

reply

I mean i bought the VHS

What's the running time of your version?

Mine was 86 min 40 secs from the opening shot to the end credits fading out. This was shorter than I was expecting the film to be so I'm wondering if I missed anything.

reply

The running time for mine is the same as yours. The running time on the back of my box says 94 min, which is incorrect. The cassette had a slight problem though, the scene where Jesse's in the hotel with Smith and he shouts out the window "RYKER!!" plays, and then it cuts to the scene where Ryker is with Chrissie, and after a few minutes it cuts and re-plays the hotel scene. Does this happen to yours?

reply

That doesn't happen on mine.

On the version I have, Jesse shouts of out of the hotel window and it cuts to the scene with Ryker and Chrissie walking through an underpass. He thens walks her to her college. In the next scene, Jesse and Smith go into a pub asking after Ryker and then it cuts to Ryker returning to his flat late at night where he finds Chrissie in bed.

Next we see Ryker and Chrissie leave the flat, return and start to do the place up.

Are all of those scenes in your version?

P.S. Did you see my then/now comparison shots of some of the locations used in the film?

reply

All those scenes are in mine, and the running time i mentioned is after i edited out the repeated scene. Yes I saw your comparison shots, very interesting indeed! Looking at your stills from the film i'm guessing you have the British tape, which is better quality than the American (less grainy). I've been trying to find one on the internet but I can only find the American tape.

reply

A friend kindly got the film off the internet for me. He knows about such things...

I don't know the origins of the version he obtained, whether it had been shown on TV or was from a VHS cassette.

Are you from America or did you buy the tape from America?

reply

Both, so it's hard to find a British tape. I found one in Australia, but it's on Betamax haha.
