6.6 - Way too Low

I suppose far too many people who saw this in hopes of some sort of authenticity or something more than it is intended to be have seen this and knocked it's rating down.

It really is a great movie. One of the most enjoyable that can be seen over and over. Very much in the vein of A Princess Bride. One can view it many times over and it actually gets better with age because the lines are so excellent.

Chaucer's introductions of Sir Ulrich are priceless.

Just love this film and, personally, think it should be much more highly rated. Great family fun as well as just among the most pleasant of movies.

So tragic that we can't see the likes of Heath Ledger any more. Every time I watch this now it comes with a twinge of sad melancholy. But, still a wonderful movie.

Hollywood really should make more like these, imo. Especially these days with so many studios going under because they made so many bad films. How can you run a studio into $3.5 BILLION in debt as MGM has done? Just idiotic.

Hollywood really should make more like these

they do,and that's why it sucks so much.

Just because you enjoy this movie that doesn't mean it's great. It's pretty terrible by just about any standard. People confuse "I like it" with "it's good" way to often.

It is a good film in a way, they just mixed it with common storylines. If you find this movie terrible then you don't know much about movies. Besides, it's quite old by now, 11 years.

reply

It had mixed reviews when it was released to the ratings are about right.

Its that man again!!

"It had mixed reviews when it was released...

And The Shawshank Redemption totally bombed at the box office.

Perineum,

So it's only good if you and few critics say it's good? You chose a good name, by the way. Not everyone is that self aware.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

"So it's only good if you and a few critics say it's good?"

Where did you get that from? How did I imply my opinion is final word? A terrible movie is a terrible movie, regardless of how I feel about it, or you for that matter. Just because I can tell when a movie is awful (no matter if you like it) doesn't mean it's just my opinion. Even if I loved this movie, it would still be awful. It just is....You know, like science. You don't have to believe it to make it true.

Oh, and congratulations on vocabulary. Not a lot of people catch on. You must be a perineum fan yourself.

+1 OP!

This movie is misunderstood and a lot more fun, and well made, than most make it out to be or can deal with.

I don't mind if people don't get it, I think it has a huge sense of hyper reality and is a lot of fun, I actually think we need more movies like this, which use old themes, but update them in a soulful fun way, much like Baz L's R&J just without all the hyper drama and self absorption.

Anyway, this flick rocks!

I think a 6.6 is about right..I gave it a 7 so its in line with my rating...I will say this, I have probably seen this movie 30 times...Its just fun to watch. I wouldn't call it great in the vain of movies like Unforgiven, Braveheart or even A Princess Bride...But it is highly entertaining in its own right...

"You are tearing me apart, Lisa!"" The Room..a cinematic masterpiece.

reply

I agree.. 7.6 is closer to the real rating. Its amazing, funny, entertaining movie with a classic "from rags to riches" theme.

reply

In part it suffers in the way a lot of comedies do; no matter how well done, they seem to rate below a drama of equivalent quality (it might just be that people see drama as harder to do, I'm probably as guilty of that as anyone).

It also polarised people over a lot of the choices they made -- just the use of anachronistic music put off a lot of people.

Lastly (and it might be a consequence of the above), the film's rating has been weighted down more than any other one I can find by IMDBs systems. Whether they suspect shenanigans or there are a lot of 9s and 10s from occasional voters, who knows?

reply

Are you kidding? This ridiculous movie has a score of 6.7 and you say it is too low... Good grief.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

reply

I totally loved this movie. 6.6 is way too low.

I now have to read the source of this film,so I can become enlightend and see it`s deeper meaning. I hated the soundtrack. I am not a fan of mixing modern music into the wrong era, but that can be forgiven if the songs chosen enhance the film in a clever way , these songs did not. They were too obvious with the exception of the Bowie song.

I feel so sorry for people who don't get this movie. Its such a fun, funny, irreverent, bold, delightful film. What a shame to miss that.

A Knight's Tale is iconoclastic in the truest definition of the word; "Seeking to overthrow traditional or popular ideas or institutions". Writer director Brian Helgeland took elements from traditional storylines; good vs. evil, true love, the triumph of the underdog, etc, and spun a classic tale. Then Helgeland turned it on it's ear by incorporating iconic Rock&Roll into a period piece! Absolutely brilliant! And irreverent, fresh, anachronous, fun, timeless, classic, charming, tongue-in-cheek, rebellious, self effacing and yes, great.

From the moment we recognize "We Will Rock You", we know we're in for something different. And that's what A Knight's Tale is, something delightfully different, and for the most part it's the music that makes it so.

I agree man, its just a good fun awesome movie. not as serious as people want, but totally super cool... odd styling, fun dialog, great arc, its super duper cheesy, but also pretty rare... even the soundtrack is right on point!

It always surprises me how much I love it.
