Just seen this for the first time....

....and have been asking myself since it finished, why the *beep* have I left it 9 years to get around to watching it?!?!
It's absolutely bloody hilarious.

Best part for me was when they're looking at the 'supplies' in the boot (trunk). I was rolling on the floor.

The IMDb rating of 6.2 is bizarre!!
Should be much higher!

This movie is quite possibly my favorite comedy!!! I gave it a 9! And thats simply because I never give 10's. I can't choose a favorite part, because the whole movie had me rolling :) I don't give 10's because there is always room for improvement.

Jim Carrey...PLEASE do keep up the good work! :) Some people don't realize just how powerful a laugh is...

I agree, I consider this movie to be underrated here on IMDB. One thing often overlooked is the musical selection, which is outstanding. The acting: superb. There are at least chuckles almost the whole way through, broken up by several really big, really memorable laughs. I'm not even a big fan of Jim Carrey as a comedic actor: he overacts. But I revised my overall negative opinion of him because of this movie, and his outstanding performance in the not-great 'The Majestic'.

Anyway, didn't mean to ramble. Yes, this movie is really, really good. I gave it an 8/10; the feel, the flow, the almost unique "texture" are almost impossible to put into words, but they all combine with the above-mentioned positives to build this into a must-watch.

The music in this movie sucks. Literally all of it. Whoever was in charge of choosing the songs for it should never work in film again.

reply

I agree wholeheartedly. Whenever I think of a lame 90's song, chances are it was in this movie.

it was exactly the same for me, by the way, most all of the early posts on this board is about a song question, it also says he's canadian, i never knew that, i liked the kids watching pryor, i can't believe all years i have missed out on this, reason because i thought it was a romantic comedy, but this is rather the kind of movie jim carrey is a riot in, the problem is he's been put in so many corny romantic comedies that these have become the rarities to come across, so going by just the title and co star i thought this to be some aaww cute mainstream flick... , so i was so surprised what a riot it was and sort of "dumb and dumber" like. right off how he gets left with the kids, and carrey who i'm guessing was in his thirties here, have fully grown up kids squashing him on the couch. the cow part was disturbing though and i didn't watch that, but, spoiler, happy to see it turned out well in the end. can you imagine how many funny movies there would be if carrey had just kept starring in movies like these, just by watching the trailer to "yes man" it looks like an attempt to make a return to this sort of thing but doesn't pull it off. i thought for a while milkey had simply vanished.

waltz in the dancing hot ballroom,
crawling like a snake around you,
till you wore my skin as shoes,
walked out ice cold town snowed in,
on your moulding dress im stuck like a seam,
to a magic carpet you embroidered me,
floated south to snowed in vatican city,
from four corners weather like beast come ride,
but with madeleine dancin above waves and landslides.

I loved this movie too. I thought it was very well acted. I expected it to be a dumb and dumber kinda thing as well, however i was surprised to kind of see how much they dove into the mental health issues side of the character. Really surprised me!
