the ending ruined it for me...

... really liked this movie up until the very end. "me myself i" and the whole body of the movie made me want them to end it with her becoming happy in her own, single skin. the fact that they had to throw the romantic interest in at the very, very end just kind of unwound the whole thing for me.

it doesn't mean she ends up with him, but it isn't unreasonable to think that with her new attitude and self assurance, she wouldn't be open to new possibilities! It is completely plausible!

I think the movie did show her happy with her single self - she did a splendind job of making her apartment a home and then it showed her her coming home with the groceries and telling the guy at the resturant that she was going home to cook ... Don't forget - earlier she wanted Ben enough to sneak a peek through his window! I think they added a relationship with Ben as the parsley on her dinner plate ==== no real need - it just makes the dish pretty.

You know, I had that reaction too, but I think what saved it is that she had an armload of groceries, and she proceeded to cook dinner for herself anyway. Cooking for yourself is the ultimate expression of being comfortable with being single. There was the moment when he said "I'll cook dinner for you," when she obviously could have said "Hey, I'm about to cook dinner, come on up." The fact that she didn't, I thought, was nice subtle way of expressing that she's no longer desperate or unhappy with her life.

"Cooking for yourself is the ultimate expression of being comfortable with being single." Brilliant line.
