The entire Hart family...it was all just a dream, the boat never blew up!
shareWhen the Hart family were killed off, it was a tragedy...The beginning of the end in fact of the series. Someone decided to bring in Channel Four's hatchet man, who I won't name, to revive the show - even though it didn't need reviving. This is the guy who revived Brookside, and we all know what happened to that.
Over the last 18 months or so, tragically, Family Affairs has atrophied and dissolved into something unrecognisable to fans like me. It has been a real struggle to watch. I sort of wonder if this has been a deliberate ploy to alienate fans so that there is no excuse to cancel the show. Soaps are expensive things for a TV company to finance. So I bet executives at Five are breathing collective sighs of relief at the money they can save next year.
I for one am fed up. I WILL NOT be investing any of my time in other soaps. They're ALL CRAP at the end of the day. I feel a tad let down at the way the way they set out to destroy a soap once they think '...it's run it's course...' That hasn't stopped Coronation Street which has been going for over 30 years. They've had their low points, when I stopped watching in about the late '80s, but ITV are obviously committed to the show.
R.I.P. Family Affairs...The last soap I'll be watching...
September 2003 up until Pete's Death two years later was a good period for the show.
The Hart Family were the main focus, but They were nearly the reason the show got axed. Ratings were embarrassing. I agree moving from Kent to W15 seemed a little implausible but if they hadn't have had those Big revamps (1999 and 2003)
FA might not have not lasted THIS long.
