FALLOIUT 3 ON THE WAY!!!!!! (FINALLY)

Heres an interview the head developer

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/elderscrolls3morrowind/news.html?sid=6102442

basically saying there no concrete plans for combat styling or bringing back black isle developers. but it is being developed, it will be made

Do you think the game could work with morrowind esque live action combat instead of turn based? I mean with better graphics this might work better. Do you think this would take away from the overall style of fallout.

I personally think as long as it keeps with the mythos, the dark humor and random encounters it would still be fallout. Combat style wouldnt matter,

Maybe you could play as different types this time, maybe as a mutie or whatever new styles the come up with. That'd be cool and a nice map editor for custom mods!

I´m glad SOMEONE took up the game, but I don´t think turning it into a Morrowind-clone would be a good idea. It really needs a top-down perspective.

-You... you killed him?
-No, I shot him. The bullets and the fall killed him.

come on now. how could this this not be good?. Imagine the Dystopic Cities/terrain in fallout 1 and 2 combined with the detail and expansiveness of morrowind?. Awesome new weapons, There keeping perks, you might actually be able to design what your character looks like! I wanna play as a mutie.

all in all I think we can trust bethesda.

Perhaps I sounded more negative than I actually am...
The problem is that I´m one of the few people who didn´t like Morrowind. At all. So if F3 is just Morrowind with fallout gadgets and story, I´m gonna throw up. To me Fallout was nothing like Morrowind. It had VERY dark humour, harsh language and the gritty realistic feeling about it that we all love.
But you´re right, if they combine what´s good about Morrowind with the Fallout concept I think it could be one helluva game.

reply

exactly.

I think morrowinds problem was that it was too static, characters had little to no personality/attitude, or voice acting, It had awesome expansiveness and graphics

I don't know man. I want Fallout 3 more than anything, but I am a little worried here. Morrowind and Fallout felt entirely diffrent. Now, i'm sure they don't plan on just making a Morrowind clone, but the isometric view and turn based combat were really a large part of the Fallout experience. I can't picture playing Fallout 1st-person. I guess maybe it could work. This could go either way, being the Fallout 3 we've been waiting far too long for; or being a complete disappointment. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

reply

Well imo in an Ideal world it could have top down view, or 1st person view to satisfy both as well as some classic turn based combat and the option of live action.

I think that would be quite a nice game, plus being VERY mod friendly would be sweeeet.

Sorry guys, the article you were checking is from 2004. I think that this game died long ago (a bad thing).

Hopefully someone will resurrect it, however there are no plans at this point.

Yeah, sure, like we could trust them with Oblivion, I guess ;)

I don't know where you got your informations about this, but to my understanding, Bethesda doesn't have "no plans" with the Fallout license, they simply keep their mouths shut about them. A Fallout 3 by Bethesda is pretty much a given, even though I'm not too happy about this, to be honest.

By the way, this is what Todd Howard (Bethesda developer and professional assclown) said in a recent Q&A:

"1. I'm currently working on...

Fallout 3. Another big-open-world RPG. We're still in preproduction building our first playable of the game and it's very exciting for us. This is the most fun part of a project."

So there you have it. They are officially working on this thing.

Here's the link, check out that photo, too, that's the guy who's in charge of Fallout now:

I heard a rumor that F3 is going to be finished at the end of this year but i dont belive it will be a good game, just to say i hate Oblivion.

"At least you weren't eaten by a grue!"

Oh crap, i´m really worried about this... I read an interview with the designers of FALLOUT 3 and they sure were talking about Oblivion alot. As if any kind of comparison could be made? Only thing the games have in common is the openended style. I don´t hate Oblivion, but it didn´t last very long for me personally (swords and spells...ZZzzzzzz) and I feel that in many ways it´s the opposite of FALLOUT.

FALLOUT is the game that grabs all the bathrobe-wearing wizard pansies by the neck and blows their balls off with a sawed off shotgun!

FALLOUT is the game that makes all the elven trees die from radiation poisoning and sells the elves off as sex slaves! "Did you say 150 caps for an hour?"

*beep* fantasy with a rocketlauncher! And don´t forget to smile whilst doing it!

Do these Bethesda people understand this? I´m sure they do.. (bites nails)

One thing i´ll say though, if they turn the brutal oldschool turnbased combat into some braindead Oblivion-style-ladies-handbag fighting I´m gonna get piss drunk, play through the old games one more time instead, and watch Road Warrior. Hey.. that sounds pretty good!

Turn based combat as it was in Fallout is dead. It also wasn't necessary for the game. Honestly I'll be very happy that I no longer have to wait 10 minutes while each and every rat on the screen takes its turn moving. There were some MAJOR downsides to the Fallout combat system.

The new system is called VATS and is a "hybrid" of turn based and realtime. Aparently you can pause it and use action points to do stuff like aim at specific bodyparts and whatnot. So they still have the old targetting system. And it looks like hitting or missing is still based on your character's skill far more than the player's. But at the saem token it also appears to be faster paced.

As for camera view, everything is 3D and you can play in first person, but they've said that they've made a very serious effort to make sure that the entire game is playable not just in 3rd person but in an isometric view.

Really it sounds like they are trying to stay true to Fallout's style while not miring it in old technology and improving things which were considered major flaws in its design.

reply

If what you say turns out to be true I´m gonna love it! Sounds awesome.

I´m not saying I wish the combat to be exactly like the games that came out 10 years ago (yes there were some really frustrating parts about it... those rats are a good example), just not dumbed down to to some straght FPS shooting. There are way, way, waaaay too many games like that already.

Fact is that Bethesda made Oblivion, and in my opinion that game had the most braindead, wimpy battles in any modern game, along with the dumbest enemies in a long time. Oblivion combat felt more like airhockey/shufflepuck than brutal swordfights. I won´t even mention the ranged combat. The thought of something similar happening to Fallout 3 makes me nervous.

reply

Oh and the blood and gore will most definitely be there. They published an ingame screenshot of a supermutant getting his head blown into bloody chunks. Plus I imagine with VATS they'll be able to implement different deaths based on hit location as well as weapon type.

Yeh, 3 will definitely be different. Doesn't mean it will have to be bad, though.

btw, if you like the Fallout series you should check out a movie called 'Six String Samurai'- low budget but VERY cool.
