Sam Neill's Accent

What is it? I can't place it.

reply

He's an Australian

reply

That being said it's a very formal, unique kind of aussie accent.

reply

He was born in Ireland but his accent is more influenced by New Zealand where he mainly grew up and I think still live their today.

reply

He's a kiwi, but like a lot of successful New Zealand actors, he probably spends most of his time in Australia, and I wouldn't be surprised he has a luxury multi million dollar house in the Sydney North Shore as do others like Nicole Kidman etc

reply

I think he is using his normal accent NZ(New Zealand)

reply

He's a Kiwi but he was born in Northern Ireland and lived there till his family moved when he was a boy. You can still detect a little bit of County Tyrone at times.

reply

He sounds predominantly Australian to me, and I am Australian also. I wonder if in his earlier films he sounded more like a Kiwi.

reply

His accent is the upper class, well spoken, Australian accent. It's a little old fashioned. The days of Australians trying to speak in this style is fading.

It reminds me of the "journalist" voice of the 80s that had British qualities.
