This show sucks

I heard this show was supposed to be so great so I watched it. I saw a 4 episode series where he kills a guy and his girl falls in love with him and she dies. Those were some amazing episode. The rest is pure garbage.
The monster you created has returned... to kill you!

I hate when people watch the OVA BEFORE seeing the TV series and come in thinking the series is gonna be 95 episodes of Kenshin killing people.

Wow. Just wow. Hell, you didn't even mention Shishio. You can't possibly have a clue what you're talking about, sorry.

Dude you're missing out on the Kyoto arc. One of the greatest single arcs in anime. Oh and shishio. *beep* Shishio

i really wanted to like this series, i really did. but there was a problem: i watched trust and betrayal first. i loved everything about that ova, the animation, the pacing, the tone, the characterisation - all excellent. but the tv series...well the comical elements did not work for me i'm afraid. i tend to avoid anime where the characters are gurning or there are weird sound effects put in for laughs - that takes me out of the programme. so i watched a couple of episodes and realised this was not my cup of tea. from what i have read i don't think i will like reflections (although the fight scenes look awesome) so trust and betrayal may well be it for me (i am considering watching the live action films though).

You watch a couple episodes of a 95 episode series and say it isn't your cup of tea? That is like watching 3 minutes of a two hour movie and saying it isn't your cup of tea. You're delusional.

i've seen your posts on the bvs board. "you're delusional" is literally the only insult that you know. your vocabulary is pitifully limited.

let me help you out and offer you a definition of delusional that is actually accurate. it would be delusional to continue to watch a 95 episode series in the hope that you will eventually enjoy it, when it is manifestly clear that you don't and never will.

reading your reply has been an utter waste of my time. please do us both a favour and don't respond to any of my posts ever again.

Do you feel insulted, you delusional person? I love when a delusional person whines about another person's vocabulary. Your word choice is absolutely hilarious by the way. "pitifully limited", "manifestly clear", did you think that was clever? Did I say watch 95 episodes? You watched a couple episodes in a 95 episode series and decided it wasn't your cup of tea. That is the same thing as watching 3 minutes of a two hour movie and deciding it isn't your "cup of tea". Spoken like a truly unstable and delusional person. "Please don't respond to any of my posts ever again.", heard of blocking someone, you delusional person?

Watching the English Dub again, the show isn't perfect, no, and especially some of the dubbed voice acting and dialouge is hilarious, but I think a lot of the storytelling and ideas of the show hold up.

The way Japanese history is incorporated is done pretty well for a pre-teen aimed anime, and no one particular side of the conflict is shown to be absolutely good or evil. There's some great philosophical points made, and I think the characters are very strongly written and created for the most part, with Kenshin himself being a great example of redemption and choosing a better and more controlled path for oneself.

One of the main flaws of the show is merely from a budget/production standpoint, and not the storytelling.
Especially in the early episodes, there are a lot of single-frame or still image shots where movement and animation is drawn over a still image to create the appearance of movement, without it actually being there.

It pales in comparison to the fluid fight scenes of Samurai Champloo or the Kenshin OVAs. In the show, most of the time you get the idea of the fight scenes, without actually seeing everything play out.

Sometimes the explanation of fighting techniques and internal monolouge of what's happening, versus just showing the audience what's going on, can be very irritating as well, but that tends to be more of a Shounen Anime device than anything else.

Overall, Rurouni Kenshin is a great anime with some shortcomings, and is in my top picks for anime overall.
