Anyone ever saw this show?

I did, and I loved it....it was aired on sundays here! And every sunday I was glued to the tv...but then the last episode came...and after a while I found out they had cancelled the show...That meant no more Hars Realm! I was really mad, I wanted to see the continuation....

And, I didn't record any of the episodes, so I can't see them again either...

Anyone else saw this show, in that case, what did u think of it??

reply

yeah, kinda sad it's gone..... wonder why they cancelled it?

reply

I was pissed when it got canceled. I still hope that space will once again pick it up, and air the episodes.

I totally agree with You, the show had extremely charismatic characters, the Chris Carter -trademark "eerie" atmosphere, captivating storylines bordering on the supernatural, and super camerawork resulting in the most beautiful visuals in the scenic British Columbia landscape. I absolutely adore this show.

This was an excellent show, perfect for the "just got out of work, need a 'Chris Carter' eerieness fix". There was only four episodes, and FOX probably figured there wasn't enough skin, competing the UPN/WB schedule, and they cancelled it. My only regret afterwards was that no one picked it up. I thought it would be perfect for Sci Fi, but I think Carter was in contract with FOX.

reply

Yeah, totally loved it. Although I was a die-hard X-Files fan, I got sick of them whining on how hard they worked on the show, and how duchovny and anderson wanted to branch out in movies. I guess I sort of see their point - I was lucky enough to do a couple commercials, and it really is a 14 hour day. I was exhausted and had fun (though, I wasn't making $2 million a year :) ) but I can see them wanting out.

Then Harsh Realm came on. I loved it, and like every show I like,it got cancelled, and stupid shows like MASH take over (OK, that is old, but you get my point). I like CSI - sure that will be cancelled too.

OK, being way to negative. Chris Carter, when he gets the right writers to help him, does make awesome shows. Harsh was awesome, but don't think it competed as well like when Cameron's Dark Angel came to FOX as well.

reply

...and then Dark Angel got cancelled too. I don't really mind that, though. Second season went too much over the top for my taste with all the conspiracy and mythology stuff. Harsh Realm didn't even get a full season. Fox TV is really screwy with all these show cancellations before they even get a chance to get off.

reply

HARSH REALM had the greatest potential of all the Fox cancellations to really build into something truly awesome, but, alas, it wasn't to be.

reply

the reason this show got cancelled? because it was bad. really, really bad. bad writing. bad acting. and production design so bad that it almost turns the corner and becomes good in a campy way (you gotta love that car they tool around in).
no offense to those above who liked it, but reading all that praise might lead someone to believe it really is an overlooked-and-wrongly-cancelled cult gem.
it ain't.

reply

I agree, this show might not have been the best show there is, but that doesn't make me change my mind about it.
The message in this was probobly just something like 'Matrix' sent out, that you can live in a parallell world, and if you die in there, you're dead... this was just done in a little different way. But I thought it was actually really good, and the acting wasn't that bad either.

Plus, if you'd followed every episode there was of a season, you kinnda just wanna know what happens... right??
How would you feel if a serie just stopped in the middle of things, and you'll never find out what will happen... that truly suc.ks!

*cold-hearted biatch*???
why thank you, john.

yes, when a network cuts off the sweet, sweet ending of a matrix clone before realizing the well thought out and original outcome...hearts will be broken. here's an idea: hobbes and the lamely named pinnochio manage to heroically escape said matrix and the good guys win! while i'm sure the actual ending would have been much more nuanced than that....
no, check that, there's you're ending! somehow they drive that ripoff of a madmax car through some lame wormhole/glitch back to reality and all is well! hooray!
what did you think was gonna happen?
well, you liked this show. kudos!
buy the dvd and sate your urges.
it's "probobly" the only satisfaction you'll get on this long cancelled "serie."
and yeah, it does "suc.ks!" when they cancel something you're watching mid-run. however, it usually only happens when you're watching way too much tube.
and thanks for absolving me about the weight of my opinion – i was losing sleep.

reply

Emm...right...that's basically what I think woulda happened too... but a real endig to the show would proboly be more satisfactional.

Ok, yeah... I used to watch very much tube, but that was actually like three years ago when did show did air here where I live... And I have given up hope on that there will 'ever' be an ending to this serie.... and, to tell the truth... I don't really care anymore... But, I did want to see it back then!

But now, I too know that what you said is probobly the only sutiable ending for a serie like that.... So thank you *bows to you*

Oh, and the *cold-hearted biatch*-thing... I wasn't referring to you.... that's just me!! It's in my sig... (Yes, I am truly a girl)

Actually, I saw it more as an improvement on the execrable VR.5, rather than a ripoff of The Matrix.

I couldn't get past VR.5's silly "phone on the modem" thing, and I was kinda leery when I saw that Harsh Realm was using a similar method (contact-encrusted headphones) to interface, but I ended up being sucked in by the visuals and... Dexter! Love that pooch!

I forgot to buy the DVD when it was first released, and when I went to buy it a few months ago, I was told it was out of print.

That was discouraging.

But I just found it at Amoeba for $19.99, and now I'm happy again!

reply

Yes I saw it.

The problem with Harsh Realm is Fox cancelled it after 3 or 4 episodes before it could build an audience. Where I lived it kept getting moved around on the schedule so you never knew what night it was showing on.

The show was very similar to David Cronenberg's 1999 theatrical film release, eXistenZ which was an underrated virtual reality movie. Also the first Matrix movie was released just about the time HR premiered. I purchased the Harsh Realm DVD and since watched all seven episodes, and really like the show...but it's an unfinished product.

I think part of the problem was the Fox Network was losing patience with producer Chris Carter. Carter's flagship show The X Files was losing viewers and Chris' other project Millennium had limped along for four seasons with weak without building much of an audience.

Unfortunately Chris Carter lost his creative mojo somewhere in the Nineties and hasn't gotten it back. It's a shame because he brought a unique form of story telling to television drama that has been widely imitated by aspiring producers & television writers over the past decade. Shows like Lost, Heroes & Fringe owe a lot to Chris Carter's creative vision.
