No "Rules of Engagement" reference?

When Joe (Peter Warburton) was going over David Spade's career I do not think I heard him mention "Rules of Engagement". Both David and Peter worked on that show for several years and I would have thought something like that would be mentioned.

Did I miss it?

YES!! Just posted about this. It's Patrick Warburton but yeah, I was waiting for that reference. They starred on that show together and it was pretty popular for seven seasons on CBS.

Very surprised that wasn't mentioned

The absence of a "Rules of Engagement" reference might have been a veiled joke itself. I was actually expecting more of an "8 Simple Rules ..." reference, since Spade's replacing of the father character was pretty much the same here as on that show.

I see it as the opposite. The absence of an "8 Simple rules" joke was the veiled joke precisely because "Spade's replacing of the father character was pretty much the same here as on that show.". The choosing of Spade for the story is the joke/reference.

I am aware of the "8 simple Rules" connection and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw they used David Spade for the role. They did not have to go any further to point it out.

I am not sure how *not* putting in a "Rules of Engagement" joke is a veiled joke in and of itself.

I agree that it was a veiled joke. It was too obvious not to mention it. I loved it.

I guess Seth is a big fan of John Ritter. He made a lot of references of Three's Company too.
