If Homer never said "Shut up, Flanders," would "Shut up, Meg" not exist?

Since "Family Guy" is notorious for stealing from "The Simpsons," I've always wondered about that. Peter is obviously a rip-off of Homer, so the fact that they both say "shut up" to someone, makes the existence of "Shut up, Meg" questionable.

What the hell does the simpsons have to do with Family Guy?

Are you somehow under the impression no one ever said 'shut up' before The Simpsons?

reply

No.

No? No what, what are you responding to?
Are you answering the question for Nevaeh_Lleh?

reply

I was responding to you.

There was no need, the question wasn't directed to you as I didn't reply to your comment.
If I had said, Is this person [Nevaeh_Lleh] somehow under the impression, then it would have been appropriate to reply to me with 'No' as I would have been speaking in general terms or to anyone who happened upon this thread.

Well actually... that's not true. 'No' isn't the correct answer to my question.
Since you answered for the o.p., the correct answer is 'Yes'.
The o.p. seems to believe either the Family Guy writers were unaware of the phrase 'shut up' before The Simpsons used it & therefore copied it from them or believes The Simpsons invented the phrase so the correct answer to the question "are you [Nevaeh_Lleh] somehow under the impression no one ever said 'shut up' before The Simpsons?" the answer is 'Yes', evidently Nevaeh_Lleh is under the impression that no one ever said 'shut up' before The Simpsons and the only place Family Guy could have gotten it from was them.
Perhaps the o.p. will return to this thread and expand on the conversation.

My fault I've forgot about that.

I never made that connection.

If Homer always told Lisa to shut up you could guarantee that Shut Up Meg was stolen from The Simpsons.

I don't know that I'd call it stealing. Some of the things FG does that are similar to The Simpsons is more parody than stealing. I think it's funny.

I just saw a Simpsons episode where the couch gag was a parody of the FG opening sequence. They're dueling. I enjoy them both. Family Guy isn't a ripoff of the Simpsons at all. FG is nasty. Simpsons isn't.

OMG! The OP is right! And Meg is a ripoff from Dumb Donald from Fat Albert who also wore a pink cap! Brian is a ripoff of Mr Ed, another animal you wouldn't expect to speak English! Chris is a ripoff of Bud Bundy from Married with Children, another socially awkward son of a man who has delusions of grandeur, but who's best days are behind him (wow - and Peter is a ripoff of Al Bundy!) Quagmire is a ripoff of Larry from Three's Company - the neighbor who always is out with another woman. We can go on and on and find all of the ripoffs!!

This madness must come to an end!!!!!
